Guatemalan police rescue 129 migrants - including 109 from Haiti - after smugglers abandon them inside a tractor trailer
Guatemala's National Civil Police discovered 129 migrants locked inside an abandoned tractor trailer on a highway Saturday
Authorities said the group consisted of 109 individuals from Haitians, 11 from Nepal and nine others from Ghana
The migrants were reportedly being smuggled to Mexico before making their way to the border region with the United States
The police said all of the migrants were transferred to shelters operated by the Guatemalan Institute of Migration

Authorities responding to an anonymous call rescued 129 United States-bound migrants, mostly Haitians, who were trapped inside a tractor trailer on the side of a highway in southern Guatemala Saturday.
