Obama: Stop Pretending It’s ‘Hardship’ for Wealthiest to Pay More Taxes to Make Economy Fair

Pam Key 27 Sep 2021

Former President Barack Obama said Monday in an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts that will air Tuesday on “Good Morning America” that it was “unsustainable” for people to pretend it was hardship for the wealthiest of Americans to pay more taxes.

Obama said, “I think the ‘Build Back America Program,’ the package is something that America desperately needs. You’re talking about us stepping up and spending money on providing childcare tax credits, making those permanent to help families, who for a long time have needed help when it comes to things like childcare. You’re looking at making our infrastructure function more efficiently and effectively. You’re talking about rebuilding a lot of buildings, roads, bridges, ports so that they are fortified against climate change. And also, that we start investing in the kinds of energy efficiency that’s going to be required to battle climate change.”

He continued, “It’s got a headline price tag of $3.5 trillion, but that is not a single year. This is spread out over a number of years. Most importantly, it’s paid for by asking the wealthiest of Americans, who have benefited incredibly over the last several decades — and even in the midst of a pandemic, saw their wealth and assets rise enormously — asking them to pay a few percentage points more in taxes in order to make sure that we have an economy that’s fair for everybody.”

Obama added, “I think that they can afford it. We can afford it. I put myself in this category now. I think anybody who pretends that it’s a hardship for billionaires to pay a little bit more in taxes so that a single mom gets childcare support or so that we can make sure that our communities aren’t inundated by wildfires and floods and that we’re doing something about climate change for the next generation, you know, that’s an argument that is unsustainable.”

To hell with Obama.  It's not this particular placemark that American's fear most

It is the pure fact that the dimocrats will continue to down scale what is defined as the "wealthiest".  If you give these sons of bitches a toe hold, and they will tax us dry.

And the idiotic basic captial gains redefine/repeal?  You just can't fix stupid.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

Let us stop pretending that punishing success and achievement will make the economy more "fair".

Let us stop pretending that the confiscation of wealth by government will somehow improve the lives of the poor, when it never has.

Let us stop pretending that those who agitate for higher taxes on the wealthy ever expect to be affected by them.

Let us stop pretending that income is the same as "wealth", or that high earners are not already heavily taxed.

Let us stop pretending that most Americans pay more than a small fraction of their income in taxes, or even any income taxes at all.

Let us stop pretending that taxes have anything to do with fairness.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Let us stop pretending DCP disciples have any clue how the economy works.

Says the man who has never run a business or had to meet a payroll by having employees he was personally responsible for paying.

We tax income, not wealth.
The gates and soros of the world are S corporations who own all the wealth/houses/etc and pay themselves very small incomes.
Since the S corp has little income and the individual themselves have minimal income, the issue is the higher income folks, not the wealthy...

They're not jacking up taxes on the wealthy.  They're jacking up taxes on those working their butts off yo become wealthy.  Elitists want to remain elite.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

  • I don't believe in Trump anymore, he's an illusion
Says the man who has never run a business or had to meet a payroll by having employees he was personally responsible for paying.
Says the man who asked the question how much money does a person need when he said “There's only so much you can eat. There's only so big a house you can have. There's only so many nice trips you can take. I mean, it's enough.” All this on his way to accruing 70 million and more, oh and while getting about a million a year from taxpayers too. Just another wealthy liberal socialist telling others to live by rules that will never be applied to them.
