Capitalism has not served the U.S. economy as well as it could have, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Friday, saying the system needed to be improved.

"In America, capitalism is our system, it is our economic system, but it has not served our economy as well as it should," she told a Chatham House event. "So what we want to do is not depart from that, but to improve it."

"You cannot have a system where the success of some springs from the exploitation of the workers and springs from the exploitation of the environment and the rest, and we have to correct that."

Bullshit.  What hasn't served us very well is all the government interference in the economy.

Capitalism and free markets are the one mechanism that have brought hundreds of millions of people out of poverty.

Socialism, not so much.

I am really hesitant to say this, but the similaries between us and the late 1980's USSR are striking.

I would be happy if that were true. It would mean the desiccated oligarchs like this dictatorial gorgon's days in power are numbered in weeks.

The only thing that would make me happier is if the similarities were between us and late 80s Rumania.

It's true! Capitalism has not served us as well as it could have because people like Nancy Pelosi have been doing everything possible to undermine it for at least 100 years!

We haven't practiced free market capitalism in this country for a VERY long time!  I think we should try it again and see what happens!
