Blinken on Afghanistan: ‘This Is Manifestly Not Saigon’ All Over Again

Pam Key 15 Aug 2021

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that while video shows military helicopters facilitating the rapid evacuation of U.S. personnel from the U.S. embassy in Kabul, it was “manifestly not Saigon.”

Guest host Jon Karl said, “An internal document that went out to embassy personnel instructed American personnel at the embassy to reduce the amount of sensitive information on the property. It also said, please include items with embassy logos, American flags, or items which could be misused in propaganda efforts. Clearly, the concern is that the Taliban — this is also I assume why you’re relocating people to the airport — that the Taliban would overwhelm and take over the embassy compound.”

Blinken said, This is standard operating procedure in any such situation. There are plans in place if we’re leaving an embassy compound, relocating our people to another place, to take all these steps. The ones you just listed. This is exactly what we would do in any of these situations. Again, this is being done in a very deliberate way, orderly way. It’s being done with American forces there to do it in a safe way.”

Karl said, “Respectfully, not much about what we’re seeing seems orderly or standard operating procedure. Just last month, President Biden said that under no circumstances — that was his words — under no circumstances would U.S. embassy personnel be airlifted out of Kabul in a replay of the scenes we saw in Saigon in 1975. Isn’t that exactly what we’re seeing now? Even the images are evocative of what happened in Vietnam.”

Blinken, “Let’s take a step back. This is manifestly not Saigon. The fact of the matter is this we went to Afghanistan 20 years ago with one mission in mind. That was to deal with the people that attacked us on 9/11. That mission has been successful. ”

He's correct:  It's much worse than Saigon, which came on the heels of the evacuation of Phnom Penh.

To be fair, was he even asked any questions?  I'm not wading through a CNN video to find out....

Tapper actually committed a random act of Journalism on Anthony Blinken...hence the reason he couldn't answer a question.

Jake to his credit had him nailed dead to rights.

I think the similarity ends with the Rats measure of responsibility.

In Vietnam the collapse happened because the Rats in Congress cut aid to the South Vietnamese military. Prior to this the South Vietnamese were able to protect themselves from the communists, without American troops.

In Afghanistan, our military leadership had 20 years to build a Afghani fighting force capable of defending their country from the barbarians. Our military leadership never indicated that the Afghani's had no will to fight and that the corruption there was so pervasive anything we did would fail. Our military leadership failed us.

My point is this mess should be a rallying cry to reform our military leadership and it's structure.

On @Right_in_Virginia's recommendation I waded, and discovered something else in the process.  Twitter is starting to use CC!

Will they be able to maintain that when US Citizens get killed because of the decision to not allow them to go to the Embassy for refuge?

"The Taliban are not even [within] 100 miles [of Kabul]. They are not in any place. They hold no place in Afghanistan. This is an illusion ... they are trying to sell to the others an illusion.

We have retaken the airport. There are no Taliban there. I will take you there and show you. In one hour."

Well you're talking about the people that have given Biden credit for the C-19 Virus and are blaming Trump for the disaster in Afghanistan.

Anything is possible with the marxist left.

Another democrat political invention crisis to manipulate without concern of America/humanity and conscience and to America's detriment.

Bagdad Bob is an excellent example of what the democrats and media have devolved to these days.  Shameless unending lies to advance their socialist agendas to America's detriment.

From June 6, 2021: (Anniversary of D-day, and Yes, NBC)
Without U.S. contractors, the Afghan military will lose its main advantage over the Taliban — air power
The loss of U.S. contractors could trigger a game-changing shift in the military balance between the Taliban and the Afghan government.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/without-u-s-contractors-afghan-military-will-lose-its-main-n1269686
Quote
Afghan government forces could lose the single most important military advantage they have over the Taliban — air power — when private contractors and U.S. troops leave the country in coming weeks.

The Afghan security forces rely heavily on U.S.-funded contractors to repair and maintain their fleet of aircraft and armored vehicles and a whole array of other equipment. But the roughly 18,000 contractors are due to depart within weeks, along with most of the U.S. military contingent, as part of Washington's agreement with the Taliban to withdraw all "foreign" troops.

(more at link)

What hurt the South Vietnamese was that funding cut off was needed to maintain and utilize their air power as well. Despite decades of insurgency warfare in which air power often seemed like taking sledgehammers to gnats, when the NVA moved South, it provided potential targets of massed troops and armor columns/convoys that would have been tremendous targets from the air, but the air force by then was mostly grounded.

Same problem, subtly different means of achieving it. Without air support, the Afghan Army could not hold.

With those people? Yes

With most clear thinking Americans? No

I have noticed few examples of random acts of journalism when it comes to Biden.

I predicted that no matter what happens under Joe Biden the press will defend him to the bitter end because they fear another Donald Trump. Little by little, there are more instances where I’m being proven wrong on that

There gets to be a point were even the press and it’s bias can’t  deny the reality

Thousands will die. Afghanis, including those who helped us at risk of their lives, and even Americans left behind. Biden lived in Lalaland telling us all everything was ok. He is a murderer... plain and simple. Our allies will leave us.

A spokesman for Saudi Arabia said they are watching America abandon the world while Russia is fighting hard to help Assad.

No matter what side you are on, you can easily discern the cowardly America and the faithful Russian.

Your average American, who pays little attention to everyday happenings in DC are acutely aware of what has happened in Afghanistan.  The press couldn't ignore and cover up Biden's huge failure on this one.   They do try to spin it... but the pictures speak loudly.
