It appears as though California’s plans to become an environmental and socialist utopia are running face first into reality.
The latest dose of reality came this week when the state, facing triple digit temperatures, began to “fret” about pressure on the state’s power grid as a result of everybody charging their electric vehicles all at once.

The state’s power grid operators have been telling residents to “relieve pressure” from the grid by charging their EVs at off-peak hours, Newsweek wrote.

Twice last week the California Independent System Operator (ISO) told residents to conserve energy voluntarily, including asking to charge their EVs at certain off-peak times. The ISO also suggested “avoiding use of large appliances and turning off extra lights,” the report says.

Why would any state wish to follow California's wisdom in going totally electric?

The possibility this past week of selective black-outs, which seem not have happened in Silicon Valley, has very very little to do with EV charging and pretty much everything to do with decades of not building enough power generation facilities and not sufficiently upgrading transmission lines.

Looks like California's plan is to kick grid upgrades down the road, I guess they don't have the cash because they are using to give illegal aliens better lives than most Americans.

I'd say attacking the largest power company for fires and misdirecting its attention away from those upgrades to defend itself in court did a lot as well.

Recently, maybe. But I was referring to the shutting down, obstructing and slowing of new power generation facilities and transmission lines upgrades that started in 1975 with Jerry Brown's first maladministration.

????? Our family cars are all gas powered, and I'm sure that if I visited "Auto Row" I'd find that the vast majority of cars at every dealership (unless there's a Tesla dealership) are gas powered.

The moonbats pursue policies of energy conservation and renewable energy to the detriment of adding generating and transmission capacity.

I'd love to build a huge coal-fired generation plant in Mexico and sell the electricity to California, but, the granola crunchers wouldn't allow for the requisite transmission capacity to be built in California.

NIMBY - not in my back yard, but, that doesn't mean you cant put it in someone else's backyard.

IMO, it would take a decade of good governance and the Enviros being gagged and banished to the rumble seat just to get CA's generating capacity and transmission capacity adequate for normal summer heatwaves.

California’s “green dream” of going to 100 percent electric vehicles by 2035 is hitting a major reality roadblock. Last week, during a major heat wave, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), the agency charged with managing the state’s electric grid, sent out a tweet suggesting electric car owners shouldn’t be charging their electric vehicles.

In the accompanying media release, CAISO had this to say: [emphasis mine]

“…grid operators again ask the public to conserve electricity to help balance supply and demand on the grid and avoid service disruptions due to extreme heat across much of the Southwest.”
