Ignore Feature, Is is it really that complicated?

How to put someone on IGNORE in the SMF Software.

Quote
Inevitably, there will be times when members get along great and times when personalities clash. SMF provides a way to handle both instances. The buddy list allows members to keep track of users they enjoy talking to, while the ignore list hides users they don't want to see.

Edit Buddies - Members may add or delete other members from their buddy list.
Edit Ignore List - Members may add or delete other members from their ignore list.

You remember to note the name of the person who you find offensive.

Go to YOUR profile (at the top next to My Messages_
Click on that
Next to Profile Info (chich is highlighted) above your Avatar
Is a button that says Modify Profile
When you click on that it brings up a list
At the bottom of the list is Buddies/Ignore List
Hoover you mouse on that and it gives you two options
Click on Ignore list
Then you have to remember the persons screen name and type it in, no @ required
Then click on ADD.

Viola you won't see their posts again, unless someone quotes their post.  That's when the scroll wheel comes in really handy.

If someone's going to be wrong and belligerent, I'd like to be able to see it.

For me, the ignore feature has almost no real purpose. The only reason I would want to ignore someone is if they were repeatedly being hurtful to me personally, which would eventually get said person the Zot anyway.

I forgot about that aspect of it @LegalAmerican in my defense I've never felt the need to Ignore anybody here so I didn't know about that.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

To the topic, an observation from the trenches:  Some of the people who boldly proclaim they are tough enough to brave the slings and arrows of folks with opposing views (and refuse to use the Ignore feature), are usually the first to bitch about the slings and arrows in reports to the Mods.

It is definitely not a feature that is difficult to use and saves some aggravation and frustration.

This forum and the Mods are wonderful.

The Mods are wonderful.  I, OTOH, am a horse's azz.  But that's OK.  It's a great training ground for a budding politician starting at it in the same manner as Col. Harlan Sanders...a bit late in life.

(It's scary.  Throw the slightest amount of muscle around in the Party politics, and next thing you know there are phone calls, urging some sort of a run for something.)

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-
