Donald Trump rages at his defense attorneys after 'rambling' opening speech praising Democrats and admitting he lost election caused Republican Bill Cassidy to vote with Democrats for trial to go ahead - but ex-president is still on track for acquittal

The Senate will move forward with its trial against Donald Trump on Wednesday
The upper chamber voted 56-44 on Tuesday evening that impeaching a former president is constitutional
Six Republicans joined the 50 Democrats in deciding to progress the proceedings forward, despite Trump's almost assured acquittal in the Senate
Those who voted with Democrats were Republican Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney ,  Ben Sasse of Nebraska, Pat Toomey and most surprising of all, Bill Cassidy
Cassidy previously agreed with Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and 43 other Republicans that impeaching an official who is no longer in office is against the Constitution
The second impeachment trial against Donald Trump kicked off with Democrats playing a video about the January 6 MAGA riot at the Capitol, focusing on the violence and featuring Trump's words
'You ask what a high crime and misdemeanor is under our constitution? That's a high crime and misdemeanor,' Lead impeachment manager Jamie Raskin said
Trump attorney Bruce Castor started off his defense of the former president with a rambling soliloquy that veered between name-dropping senators and flattery
'You know, senators of the United States, they are not ordinary people. There are extraordinary people in the technical sense, extraordinary people,' Castor said
Trump will take a break from golfing this week to closely follow his second impeachment trial on TV from his Mar-a-Lago residence
The trial could run straight through the weekend – with a potential conviction vote on Monday; Trump is expected to be acquitted
Trump was put off when Castor tipped his hat to the Democratic managers' presentation, calling it 'well done'

Indeed.

OMG

Trump attorney says he'll 'do better' after criticism from GOP
https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/538165-trump-attorney-says-hell-do-better-after-criticism-from-gop

Which begs the logical question....

if he is capable of 'doing better'... then why didn't he do better?

Deliberate or not @XenaLee  --- all that's being talked about is them.  They're panicked with good reasons.  They felt the power to destroy them sitting in that chamber.  I half expect them to recommend conviction in their closing remarks.

And look at what we're NOT talking about ....

Are we discussing where the Senate gets the authority to determine the Constitutionality of anything?  No.  Are we discussing the new, diminished role of our Supreme Court?  No.  Do Americans know jurors sitting as judges is a new and troubling precedent?  No.

Are we discussing the Marxists' doctored evidence?  No.  Are legal analysts explaining that the video would not be permitted in a court of law because it is an emotional appeal and does not present a shred of evidence that the President was involved, in any way, in this so called "insurrection"?  No.

My prediction:  This trial is just a stepping stone for the Marxists to refer this to the DOJ for criminal investigation and trial.  I expect Donald Trump will be convicted.

The United States of America has crossed the Rubicon.  There is no coming back from this.

Whether or not they sucked doesn't really change the fact that the whole thing is a farce. And after Lin Wood, Guuliana and the "kraken" lady I don't doubt that they sucked. Trump doesn't seem to be able to pick an effective legal team, which is surprising given that he makes sure he runs everything by his lawyer.

You sound like you have little appreciation for what is happening in WDC and at its direction to anything and anyone on the former President's side.  But I suppose you're handling the transformation of our government into a Marxist state the only way you know how.  I hope it remains a comfort for you.

And....if they succeed in convicting and imprisoning Trump, they'll be coming after all of us (on the right) next.  Bank on it.

The idiots that voted Democrat are too stupid to know they voted for Marxist (communist) control of America.   They'll find out way too late, as has happened in past history... when useful idiots are used to destroy democracy from within.

Of course he did.

IMO, this is all about the One World Government Order.  IOW, Globalism and their interests.   A rush to guarantee life-changing money.

President Trump destroyed their plans by showing the world (but not enough inbred-Americans) what a revivalist National Populist movement can achieve for OUR nation.

It wouldn't be out of the realm that these attorneys on Day 1 were paid-off with serious 7 or 8 figure sums.

All to paint Donald Trump as an insurrectionist and unable to run for public office again....because they know that he'll win handedly.

@TrumpWarRoom

Imagine having a "trial" where the "judge" had already voted to convict the defendant?

That's what happens in banana republics, third world dictatorships and now the United States Senate. SAD!

DC is lousy with one-world trash, apparently. As much as I wish it weren’t so, everyone will lose, but I really don’t see this being resolved but one way.

1/ Trump was prevented from having his 1st choice of lawyers as a result of extreme pressure from Democrats. His 3rd rate representation was broadcast live for the world to see - it did not go well. But you may have no idea how bad it really is.

Trump parts with impeachment lawyers a week before trial

2/ You might be surprised to learn that one of Trump's three lawyers is a personal injury attorney, a registered Democrat and Biden donor, who called Trump a "bleep crook" in 2019. He even sued Trump not once but twice in 2020.

Trump's impeachment lawyer van der Veen 'called him a f***ing crook'
Michael van der Veen, 57, is one of three lawyers representing Trump at his impeachment trial. On Tuesday it emerged van der Veen had disparaged Trump, donated to Democrats and sued him.

3/ So when you tune into Trump's impeachment trial remember that Democrats are the judge, jury, witness, victim, and defense counsel. If you're not convinced we're witnessing a rigged system you might not be paying attention.
