Why Burn Books When You Can Ban Them? Writers and Publishers Embrace Blacklisting In An Expanding American Anti-Free Speech Movement

Hundreds of publishing officials, professors, and academics have signed a petition to blacklist Trump administration alumni from receiving book deals.  It is the latest step in a rapidly expanding anti-free speech movement in the United States. In the wake of the Capitol riot, Democratic members and others are calling for a crackdown on free speech and punitive actions for those viewed as complicit with Trump. What is striking is how censorship, blacklists, and speech controls are being repackaged as righteous and virtuous. Indeed, the failure to sign such anti-free speech screeds is a precarious choice for many.  It is as easy as calling for tolerance through intolerance.  After all, why burn books if you can just effectively ban them?

America really is moving into a whole new world of Democrat totalitarianism.

We have never seen anything like so many things happening today from fascistic "so called" Liberals (Nazis).
It will take some kind of real revolution to get us off this path.

I am old and retired. My functional life has already past. So none of this stuff will really affect me.
It is up to the new generation to stop this. And they will, eventually. Youth always rebels against everything.
This new fascism is not immune from that.

Remember, the Antifa riots after the election were rioting 'against' Biden and Kamala, not for them.
Another old White guy from the 40s and his mulatto lawyer nurse did not impress them.

I sense that many of the posters in this forum are in the same position in life as you.

You're correct that... in time, the youth will see the reality of the new communism in America.

Aside: Not facism... again I will state it before everyone in this forum: what you see transpiring now will eventually transmogrify into full-blown, doctrinaire communism.
That's because "socialism" won't be enough and will fail.
That's because even "facism" won't be enough and will also fail.
Finally, the people will be told, "we have no other choice, marx and lenin show the only way forward".

Yet it's going to take decades for the young-and-recently-young to come to the conclusion that such a system is NOT what they want. And they will ONLY come to such a conclusion after having been born, educated, and having lived under it for the first few decades of their lives.

Many youths today think socialism/marxism/communism is desirable (and capitalism bad) because that's what's been indoctrinated into them in school and university. They've never had to LIVE under such a system in practice.

It's only after full communism takes hold, and brand-new children are born under it who move through the education system and eventually into work, will these newly-born generations realize that communism offers them nothing.

And it will take more than a single generation.
I reckon at least two, more like three, perhaps even four.
That's 30, 40, 50 years or longer before the communists-in-charge can no longer keep the masses under control. Or perhaps they will still be kept under control, until the government here comes to a similar stalemate that the Soviets reached, beyond which they simply no longer could continue.

Perhaps then the United Soviet Socialist States of America will finally "dissolve itself", perhaps into a "Confederation of American States" once again.
Perhaps groups of those states will join together as unified nations.
Although I doubt that when that time comes, we could see a 50-state "Union" again.

I won't be here to see it.

Compared to "on a human face" for socialism, and "on a pile of human crematory ashes" for fascism.

We've truly come full circle in this country.  Progressives, who used to decry book burnings and blacklists as evil and fought hard against them...are now the biggest advocates for them.

And Conservatives, who used to be accused of cheering on and supporting book burnings and blacklists, are the ones crying out against them.
