More than 1,400 mothers and newborns were studied, and researchers found antibodies were transferred across the placenta in 72 of 83 infected or previously infected pregnant women, according to the study by the Journal of the American Medical Association’s JAMA Pediatrics published on Friday.

And this should be surprising because...? They share the same bloodstream at that point of development; of course the antibodies would carry over.

Actually they don't share the same blood stream. But the permeability that allows, for example, nutrients to pass mother-baby allows other things to pass. Given the SARS-CoV-2 has only been in the US since November or December 2019, there can't be a large number of babies "out there" born to Moms who have recovered from Covid.
