No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Did that, too. Took the test on a '76 FXE and passed first try.

Did that, too. Took the test on a '76 FXE and passed first try.

I did as well.  I got pretty familiar with the back roads around town.  Then, on the Sunday before the Monday I was scheduled to take the test, I was out back doing some last minute practicing, and I looked in the mirror, and here comes a sheriff's car, with lights blazing.  I pulled over and got ready to be read the riot act - I've never had good luck when getting pulled over - but he raced on past me like I wasn't even there.

Then, five minutes later, I'm on a different road, and here comes the same sheriff's car, lights still going.  I pulled over again, and he flew by, again.

Finally, on a different road, that happened again, the third time.  So I decided that I'd had more than enough practice and was just tempting fate.

The next day, I rode to the DMV, and took the test - and passed - funny thing though:  nobody bothered to ask me how I managed to get the bike there, seeing as I was on my own.

@Kamaji

I once rode the fat bob I built myself to a DMV office in Denver to renew my MC license. IIRC,this was in Dec,and the snow was assdeep to a tall Indian. When I asked the DMV guy if he wanted to hop on the P Pad to personally appraise my ability to safely handle a custom shovel head Harley,he looked at me like I was nuts,and just stamped and signed the paper.

I suspect he MAY have had an unpleasant experience or two with MC riders.

I doubt that was it in my case.  I was a pretty scraggly 20-something at the time, and the DMV guy was tall and wiry, and athletic.  I think it was mainly a case of don't-ask-don't-tell; that or he assumed that I had a friend ride it over, while I drove over, and that the friend had since taken off (which is the line I would have offered if he had asked me about it).

Did you have a temporary drivers permit prior? That's pretty common to prior to be being tested at the DMV.

I don't recall.  It was almost 30 years ago.
