Initial reports about the incident related that the suspect was still at large following the brutal assault.

It’s not yet clear how the officer was ambushed but local police officials confirmed that “a WV Police officer has been shot in the face.” They report that the location of the shooting was “within the 200 block of Garrison Ave in Charleston.”

Police: Officer, suspect shot in Charleston, West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A police officer in West Virginia was shot Tuesday while responding to a parking complaint, and a suspect also was wounded, police said.

Charleston Police Chief Tyke Smith identified the patrol officer as Cassie Johnson. Both Johnson and the suspect were taken to a hospital. Smith didn’t provide details on their injuries or conditions at a news conference Tuesday night.

Johnson “was struck in what would normally be a fatal wound,” Smith said. “She has a pulse. She’s not out of the woods.”

The suspect’s name and condition were not released. Neither Smith nor Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin took questions from the media.

One police officer  was shot in Albert Lea, Minnesota a few days ago. Some nut called the police for a supposed emergency and shot him as he was getting out of his squad car.
Fortunately, the officer was wearing a vest and not seriously injured. Two other bystanders were shot by the nut.

She was investigating a parking complaint when shot. The suspect was also shot and is currently in the hospital recovering. He was arrested on scene. The officer died yesterday at 400 pm.

A police officer in West Virginia who was shot in the face Tuesday while responding to a traffic complaint died Thursday evening, Charleston city officials announced, according to a report.

Charleston police Officer Cassie Johnson, 28, had been removed from life support Wednesday after it was determined she was not expected to recover from her wounds. Her organs will be donated, officials said.

"To say we are heartbroken is an understatement," Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin said Thursday, according to the Charleston Gazette-Mail. "We are at a loss because we have lost one of our sisters in blue."

The bum who shot her had a long list of petty crimes to his credit. He was out on bond when he shot the CPD officer.

... The alleged suspect, 38-year-old Joshua Phillips got in a disagreement with his brother, the police were called. He left the scene only to be spotted by police a short distance away.

He was pulled over for and officers discovered he was driving on a suspended license related to a DUI in January of this year. But Phillips had a history with Charleston Police.

In June of 2019, according to a criminal complaint, Phillips was charged with brandishing a weapon after getting into an argument with a neighbor. According to the report, police were called when Phillips secured a long gun and, in the reports words, was racking a shot gun. It turned out later the weapon was an AK-47.

Phillips passion for firearms can be seen on his Facebook page which shows two Remington 45-caliber handguns – one with the image of the grim reaper on the hand grip.

In January of this year, Phillips was stopped by police and was found to be driving on a revoked license due to a previous DUI. authorities also found Phillips had at least four outstanding unpaid citations dating back to 2016.

On the day officer Cassie Johnson was shot – Phillips was out of jail on bond for the revoked license.
