California Proposition 16 election results: Affirmative action measure is failinghttps://abc30.com/prop-16-california-2020-results-did-pass-election-proposition/7584224/Proposition 16, a ballot measure to reinstate affirmative action in California government is failing.
The "no" votes had more than 55% of more than 11 million votes counted as of early Wednesday morning.
The measure aims to once again allow race, ethnicity and gender to be considered in admissions to state colleges and universities, as well as state contracts and public jobs.
As this article goes on the state, Prop 16 would have effectively repealed 1996's Prop 209, which banned considering race, ethnicity, and gender in admissions to state colleges and universities, state contracts, and public jobs. If the final margin is ~55%-45% this was a solid smack-down of racial and gender preferences,
a smack-down that does not surprise me.
