Today's Birthdays: March 1, 2013--Rock singer Roger Daltrey is 69

Happy birthday, Roger, although there is a obvious typo in that report as it says he's 69 and that would mean I am...

From The Who to The Guess Who. A great song if you can move beyond its rank anti-Americanism. I have always wanted to ask these Canucks if, in addition to rejecting American women and all the rest, they also rejected the American dollar? Hey?

Additional note: the pics accompanying the song's intro will bring back many memories of that period but also contains a sign which shows the F word. Just a friendly advisory, thank you.

Final one for the day. From the 1967 movie "Banning" starring Robert Wagner and Anjanette Comer. A forgettable film but a theme song which has stayed with me for all those years and even now, 45 years later, will just pop into my head. Music by Quincy Jones, lyrics by Bob Russell. Nominated for Best Song it lost out to "Talk to the Animals" from Dr Doolittle.

Not represented, I think.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpVCL00fPAc

There is an entire live performance on youtube with The Chain, Tusk and more... excellent show.  Lindsey Buckingham is a brilliant musician and he and Stevie Nicks were magical performing together, their personal relationship was not so magical... but they are friends (again) and I understand they are doing a tour together this year...... I would love to see them live again.

Brenda Lee. She's nicknamed "Little Miss Dynamite" because such a big voice came out of such a small package (4' 7"). She was so popular in her day she's been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

An encore performance. This one is for Rapunzel who stated earlier she liked this group so since she likes them and I like her (purely platonic I assure you)
(:dammit:)  this is dedicated to her.

If I am not mistaken this is also Stevie Nicks little, uh, love(?) song for Lindsey Buckingham.

Just like the white winged dove...
Sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
Whoo... whoo... whoo...
Just like the white winged dove...
Sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
Ooo baby... ooo... said ooo

And the days go by...
Like a strand in the wind...
In the web that is my own...
I begin again
Said to my friend, baby...
Nothin' else mattered

He was no more... than a baby then
Well he... seemed broken hearted...
Something within him
But the moment... that I first laid...
Eyes... on... him... all alone...
On the edge of... seventeen

Just like the white winged dove...
Sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
ooo baby... ooo... said ooo...
Just like the white winged dove...
Sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
Ooo baby... ooo... said ooo

I went today... maybe I will go again...
Tomorrow
And the music there it was hauntingly...
Familiar
And I see you doing...
What I try to do for me
With the words from a poet...
And the voice from a choir
And a melody... nothing else mattered

Just like the white winged dove...
Sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
ooo baby... ooo... said ooo
Just like the white winged dove...
Sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
Ooo baby... ooo... said ooo

The clouds... never expect it...
When it rains
But the sea changes colours...
But the sea...
Does not change
And so... with the slow... graceful flow...
Of age
I went forth... with an age old...
Desire... to please
On the edge of... seventeen

Just like the white winged dove...
Sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
Ooo baby... ooo... said ooo
Just like the white winged dove...
Sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
Ooo baby... ooo... said ooo

Well then suddenly...
There was no one... left standing
In the hall... yeah yeah...
In a flood of tears
That no one really ever heard fall at all
Oh I went searchin' for an answer...
Up the stairs... and down the hall
Not to find an answer...
Just to hear the call
Of a nightbird... singing...
Come away... come away...

Just like the white winged dove...
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing...
Ooo... baby ooo... said ooo
Just like the white winged dove...
Sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
Ooo... baby ooo... said ooo

Well I hear you in the morning...
And I hear you...
At nightfall...
Sometime to be near you...
Is to be unable... to hear you...
My love...
I'm a few years older than you...

Just like the white winged dove...
Sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
Ooo baby... ooo... said ooo

She was never the greatest singer ever recorded but there was always something special about her. Perhaps it was that her voice reflected the pain she felt within her own life.

I do think Billie Holliday was a great singer; she reminded me of this tune from New Orleans.  I posted before--but I like it...so....

Definitely good stuff, FDaY. I counter your move with yet another Billie Holiday. Unfortunately it is very difficult to find film of Billie performing but this is one of her best blues songs with typical 30s band backing.

DC's so right.  Why are you doing this MUD?  I'm sure you don't want to be thought of as the Ernest T Bass on online commentary.
You have made very nice contributions.  Why wreck it?  Just sayin
