I was under the impression that once a thread reached a certain point.....and we're well beyond it....that a "bump" on a song was tantamount to somebody dropping a quarter in the jukebox.

No disrespect intended here....an honest question.

Do you actually expect me to go through 68 pages looking for a song?

That may well be the case but one of the advantages of taking the slow boat as I am is that I run across songs I like and listen to them. For example, as I type this I am listening to "Fantasy" by Earth, Wind, and Fire posted in 03/11 by...you.

FDaY, where I live I am a fortunate lad. Recently we had a major shakeup of AM radio stations and one of the stations which changed went from all sports to "Classical Country".  And I mean "classical". They go way back and play a host of old tunes and artists.

One thing that is great about this station is that it has no annoying announcers and few commercials. It's like what FM was years ago. So when I get tired of today's stuff (usually quickly) and tired of listening to today's problems on talk radio, I just hit the button for this station and enjoy pure, unspoiled C&W with little or no interruptions.

Yeehaw!

Great idea, Cincy.  I'm going to search I Heart Radio to see if I can find one online.  In the meantime, here's one from a man who had a great positive effect on me personally years ago:

I hope no one considers me presumptious for starting a new music thread but as long ago as July, 2012, it was recommended this be done as the original thread was getting harder and harder to load. The thread hasn't been quite as active since then but perhaps a new one will gin up some renewed interest.

Now if I can just get one of our kind mods to pin this we will be all set to go.

I didn't see this group represented on the other thread but I haven't quite finished working through it (it's length being another reason to start a new thread). In any case, I can dig it, can you dig it?

This song did not begin the rock and roll revolution but it was there near the beginning. Today they make a big deal about it being included in "American Graffiti", but its early popularity was in part due to its inclusion in the opening credits of "Blackboard Jungle" (1955) for which it established a hard driving, raucous pattern.

My contribution to Valentine's Day. I assume everyone has heard at least part of this song in the TV commercial, and while I have never been able to comprehend the appeal of Jimmy Durante's singing, the orchestration and arrangement on this are first rate.

I think sometimes it doesn't take a great voice to evoke deep emotions.. this song from Durante is one of those songs... it always moves me to tears.

Now one of my favorite composers. This work by him has been recorded by a host of artist. However, I picked the version by Brasil 66 'cause I like them, too.

A twofer. The first is a version of the much recorded Cole Porter "Begin the Beguine" by Bing Crosby, a singer not seen here before, I think. The second is a video of Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell dancing to an instrumental version of the song from the film "Broadway Melody" (1940).

Incidentally the beguine is a dance that originated in the caribbean island of Martinque. That fact gives some idea of the cleverness found in Porter's lyrics.

Btw, since we are on the subject of dance, did you know the Tango is alleged to have originated in the brothels of Buenos Aires? This claim is much disputed and does cause one to ponder, since brothels main activity doesn't seem to be dancing. Interesting theory nonetheless.

My contribution to Oscar night. From 1957's "High Society", another of Cole Porter's, "True Love". Though nominated it didn't win Best Song but it's still a great work.

DC Patriot take note. In this film Sinatra and Crosby, for perhaps the only time, sang a duet.
