News: @SenatorCollins told me earlier this month in Maine that she would not seat a Supreme Court justice in October.

“I think that’s too close, I really do,” she said.

She said she’d also oppose seating a justice in the lame duck if there’s a change in presidents.

These people have no business in positions of power!

A lame duck is someone who cannot run for a certain position again .. like obama and his being in his second and final term!

Liberals are losing their minds!

I'm sure they are definitely concerned and are looking at every angle and underhanded maneuver to ensure that Trump won't be nominating a justice before election day.

IMHO just not going to happen.

Francey Hakes (who the hell is she) is on with Tucker Carlson threatening violence in the streets if the Senate attempts to replace RBG before the election.

Apparently, both Sen Lindsay Graham and Sen Grassley said in 2018 that they would not take up the nomination of a replacement for RBG should something happen to her in 2020 in the election year.  If that is true, then the fine people of South Carolina should vote for a true Democommie versus the RINO POS that Graham is.   If Graham sticks to this idiotic mindset, he loses in November, guaranteed.  What a putz to say something so stupid.

The next few days should be very interesting.  Trump has the chance to put the fifth vote on the worthless Supreme Court to end the mass genocide of abortion.  If he decides to delay, he loses the evangelical vote and the pro life vote in November, and he loses the re-election.

Bottomline:  Trump has no choice.  Either he nominates a replacement, or he loses in November.  It is that simple!!!

If Senate Republicans jam through a replacement for Justice Ginsburg before Jan 20, 2021, we must commit to expand the Supreme Court at first opportunity to finally balance a court that has been in Republican hands for now over 50 years.

Which is funny since it most likely will be a woman.
@dfwgator

I recall, during the past couple of weeks, for some reason Trump had his list of people to consider for the next supreme court judge.  Don't think there was a woman on it, but I'll check that right now.

President Trump on Wednesday unveiled a list of 20 additional potential Supreme Court nominees that includes three Republican U.S. senators, a White House lawyer-turned-judge and his former solicitor general.

Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), as well as Noel Francisco, who departed as solicitor general in June, are among the names added to the current list of candidates for the Supreme Court. Hawley, however, swiftly tweeted that he has “no interest” in serving on the Supreme Court and looked forward to “ confirming constitutional conservatives” in the Senate.

The list also includes a handful of individuals who have served in the Trump administration or his White House, as well as Trump appointees to lower federal courts. It includes, for instance, Gregory Katsas, who served as deputy White House counsel before Trump chose him to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in September 2017.

The announcement represents a bid to shore up his support among conservatives two months from the 2020 presidential election, as polls show Trump trailing Democratic nominee Joe Biden nationally and in key swing states.

In remarks at the White House, Trump warned that religious liberty, freedom of speech, and the right to bear arms are all at risk if Democrats win the election, asserting that they would appoint “radical” justices to the high court.

“Over the next four years, America’s president will choose hundreds of federal judges and in all likelihood, one, two three and even four Supreme Court justices,” Trump said in remarks from the Diplomatic Reception Room at the White House.

“The outcome of these decisions will determine whether we hold fast to our nation’s founding principles or whether they are lost forever,” Trump continued.

The future of the Supreme Court hangs in the balance as the Nov. 3 voting day quickly approaches.

If Trump wins another four-year term, he would likely get the opportunity to replace ailing liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 87, and possibly fellow liberal Justice Stephen Breyer, 82, which would give conservatives a commanding 6-3 or 7-2 majority.

The next oldest justice is conservative Clarence Thomas, 72, who is currently the longest-serving member of the court and whose 28 years on the bench is longer than the typical justice’s tenure.

Just so everyone is clear: if Republicans replace #RuthBaderGinsberg , it WILL NOT be a 6-3 majority. Don’t but that lie. It most likely will be 5-4 conservatives because John Roberts is worse than a wildcard. Still, it’s HUGE

I think the big Lib donors are ALREADY maxing out on pouring in money...but this is going to insanely motivate the conservative base to come out and vote. And they were ALREADY fever pitch...this will even bring in a few of the more sane NeverTrumpers as they understand the court is the last bastion against the liberal tide.

If Senate Republicans jam through a replacement for Justice Ginsburg before Jan 20, 2021, we must commit to expand the Supreme Court at first opportunity to finally balance a court that has been in Republican hands for now over 50 years.
And still hasn't undone the damage the left did with the Court in its hands for 20. (Keeping in mind that two of those leftist justices—Earl Warren and William Brennan—were recess appointments filled without confirmation by the Senate. Even though they were nominally Republican, they pushed every left-wing cause they could from their benches.)

Which may in the end help the GOP's chances to keep the Senate since Republicans will be more motivated to get out and vote to keep in the hands of the GOP.  I think Trump knows that, he's going to pick the person he thinks will help the GOP the most in November, even if they won't be confirmed until after the election.

Good point.  We need to galvanize GOP voters to keep the Senate.  This is the issue that can do it.

If SCOTUS is deadlocked 4-4 during post-election litigation, equal protection is a dead letter. Because ties affirm the appellate court’s decision, we will end up with split circuits and different rules and standards across the country. That is a recipe for chaos and division.

Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Mitt Romney need to commit today that they will not vote on any Supreme Court nominee before the election.

Thank God we have the Senate...but talk about a gift to incentivize Dems to get out the vote.
@DCPatriot
@mystery-ak

Republicans have a number of Senators up for reelection and not many Democrats up for reelection.  Don't have those numbers right now.  It is likely Democrats will take the Senate for this reason and now, also because there is an empty Supreme Court Justice Seat that will bring out more Democrats to vote.

Normally, it is the Independent vote that determines who will be President.  This death of Ginsburg, a liberal but loved by millions, plus Independents don't like the four years of tweets, will likely vote against Trump and for Ginsburg (that being another liberal woman Supreme Court Judge).  There will have to be a Democrat President to have a liberal woman Supreme Court Judge.
