The CEO of the Nordstrom department store chain has signaled to Portland's mayor that it may shut down its operations in the city. If it does, it would join REI, who shut down its downtown Pearl District location due to robberies and theft, Walmart, Target (which closed three Portland locations in 2023) and Macy's.

Many radical leftists in the city support criminality, arguing that it is compassionate and righteous to let people do what they want to without arrest or prosecution.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — President Donald Trump said Saturday he will send troops to Portland, Oregon, “authorizing Full Force, if necessary” to handle “domestic terrorists” as he expands his controversial deployments to more American cities.

He made the announcement on social media, writing that he was directing the Department of Defense to “provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland.” Trump said the decision was necessary to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, which he described as “under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists.”

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for details on Trump’s announcement, such as a timeline for the deployment or what troops would be involved.

Portland’s mayor, Democrat Keith Wilson, said there was no need for troops in his city. “Our nation has a long memory of acts of oppression, and the president will not find lawlessness or violence here unless he plans to perpetrate it,” he said. ...

If that's really true, it's time for the United States military to
- occupy Portland City Hall
- remove the mayor
- remove the city council (or whoever "governs" the city)
and then
- set up a military government until all city employees can be vetted, and either restored to thier positions or offered the choice of resignation or trial on charges that they refuse to provide a "republican form of government" as per the U.S. Constitution.

Trump Declares National Guard in Place in Oregon

Citing deteriorating conditions in Oregon, President Donald Trump said Wednesday the National Guard is in place to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement efforts.

Trump announced Saturday he would send troops to Portland, the state's largest city, to handle what he called "domestic terrorists." He said protests were interfering with enforcement of immigration law.

"As I determined on September 27th, when I activated and called into service the National Guard in Oregon, conditions continue to deteriorate into lawless mayhem," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

"Our GREAT Federal Law Enforcement Officers have not been able to enforce the Laws in Oregon. ANTIFA and the Radical Left Anarchists have been viciously attacking our Federal Law Enforcement Officers, men and women who are simply doing their job, protecting Federal Property, and enforcing Federal Immigration Laws and the Rule of Law.

"We will never allow MOBS to take over our streets, burn our Cities, or destroy America. The National Guard is now in place, and has been dedicated to restoring LAW AND ORDER, and ending the Chaos, Death, and Destruction! We are a Nation of LAW, and we will PREVAIL."

Trump didn't mention Portland in his post, and Newsmax reached out to the White House for comment. Demonstrators had reportedly gathered in front of an ICE building in Portland since June to protest the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration.

On Monday, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth signed a memorandum to nationalize 200 Oregon National Guard members for 60 days. The order cited "credible threats of violence" at the ICE building in Portland.
