Virginia sheriff: Deputy attacked, found unconscious on roadside by passerby

WARRENTON, Va. (ABC7) — A Fauquier County Sheriff’s Deputy was found unconscious on the side of the road outside of Warrenton around  7:15 p.m. Friday night.
Investigators say he was attacked just minutes before, around 7:10 p.m., after stopping at the intersection of Old Waterloo Road and Wilson Road to remove an object from the roadway.
As the deputy was walking back to his marked Sheriff’s Office vehicle he says he heard an approaching vehicle and heard someone yell.
