And faces the death penalty.

GBI opens probe of Fulton DA Paul Howard over use of nonprofit funds

The GBI has opened an investigation of Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard and his use of a nonprofit to funnel at least $140,000 in city of Atlanta funds to supplement his salary, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Channel 2 Action News have learned.

The criminal investigation comes at a time when Howard, Fulton’s DA since 1997, is being challenged in the Democratic primary for reelection and is facing allegations of sexual harassment, which he strongly denies.

In a statement issued Monday, Howard predicted he will be cleared of any wrongdoing.

“This is not the first time what would be considered as an administrative matter for other Georgia elected officials is turned over to the GBI for investigation when it involves the Fulton County district attorney,” he said. This was in reference to the agency’s 2014 investigation of Howard’s use of money forfeited by criminals to pay for galas and dinners for his staff and their families.

A change of venue is nearly guaranteed.  a whipped up public, the DA trying the case in the press... No oversight by an outside system, no investigation, summarily fired... This is a railroading.

A few observations...

2. Georgia, for now, can be considered "a red state".
But... it is not going to remain one much longer.

3. I would expect to see a number of resignations by whites from the police departments of big cities down there.

4. Finally, if this case goes to a conviction on charges of "murder", and if president Trump is in office when it's settled, it would be a good instance of issuing a pardon. (I'd make sure the officer would agree to move far out-of-state...)

Two Atlanta police officers were charged in the fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks.

District Attorney Paul Howard Jr. announced on Wednesday that warrants will be issued in the case involving Garrett Rolfe, the officer who fired his handgun three times while he was chasing Brooks outside a Wendy's restaurant, and Devin Brosnan, the officer who arrived on scene first.

Rolfe faces 11 charges, including felony murder, and he could face life in prison, life without parole, or the death penalty if convicted, Howard said at a press conference in Atlanta.

Brosnan, who was charged with aggravated assault, is cooperating with prosecutors. Howard said he had given testimony as a state's witness.

Brooks's widow, Tomika Miller, was in attendance, along with her lawyers.

IMO...perp fired a taser at the officer.  Officer returned fire....   Should be no charges AT ALL.....

In the video it didn’t look like he was kicking him. It looked like he was nudging him like you see in movies all the time when they don’t want to immediately lean over a person that might still be responsive enough to start fighting again or grab your gun.  They say it took two minutes for them to get down and start administering aid to him. I imagine they were probably looking around to make sure a mob wasn’t forming before they moved into a vulnerable position and calling in backup. Two minutes is not that long.
