RNC moving ‘full steam ahead’ for 2020 convention, while DNC’s still up in the air
OAN, Apr 30, 2020

Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, both Republican and Democrat officials are moving forward with planning their conventions this year.

For Republicans, the RNC is set to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina in late-August. Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said the party’s moving “full steam ahead” with plans for an in-person convention. With stay-at-home orders and lockdowns in place, however, some are expressing doubt.

“If the convention was to occur tomorrow, based on the stay-at-home orders and the prohibition against mass gatherings, it would not be lawful for the parties to move forward with the convention,” stated Patrick Baker, city attorney for Charlotte, North Carolina.

Some conservatives recommended that the RNC work on a Plan B, but President Trump has suggested there’s no need.

“We have no contingency plan,” he stated. “We’re having the convention at the end of August and we think by the end of August, we’ll be in good shape…and I think we’re going to have a great convention.”
