April 26 (UPI) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday said that Congress will provide coronavirus funding for state and local governments in a forthcoming stimulus bill.

Pelosi, appearing on CNN’s State of the Union, responded to criticism from state and local leaders including New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo who called on such funding to be included in previous legislation, including the fourth COVID-19 relief bill signed on Friday.

“Just calm down,” she said. “We will have state and local and we will have it in a very significant way.”

She also encouraged state and local to continue being vocal about their need for federal aid.

“The governors are impatient. I’m a big fan of Gov. Cuomo, my own governor, Gavin Newsom, has been so spectacular, my mayor … State and local have done their jobs magnificently. They should be impatient, their impatience will help us get an even bigger number,” said Pelosi.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday opposed providing funding for state and local government, instead suggesting that they apply for bankruptcy.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told Fox News Sunday he was prepared to provide funding to local governments if Congress can reach an agreement.

“If we need to spend more money we will and we’ll only do it with bipartisan support,” he said.

One of the overlooked items in the past couple of months is the dearth of tax receipts coming into state coffers.  Businesses are closed, people are out of work, so taxes are not paid.

The feds can print money out of thin air, but states cannot.

The very best thing right now that can happen is red states open up, get people working, businesses open and taxes coming in, while blue states imprison their people.

Think the citizens of blue states won't notice?

This is enough.  There was one thing that I did appreciate that Trump was doing and that was reaching the African American community.  The drive to get people off welfare and into work.  What is happening is all progress in that direction is being set back farther than it has ever been.  People are now more dependent on the government than ever.  Even people who are hard workers that have always worked are forced not to.

I really hate race politics.  The other day I listened to a briefing on Trumps twitter.  Although I know that there is communities divided by race I don't like race politics.  He had to mention he was getting help to the African American communities and the Hispanic communities.  If we ever want to have liberty in America it would be to tear down the walls of racism and address poverty only as it is.  Poverty.  But when he said that it triggered in me the idea that certain communities cannot take care of themselves.  That by your race you are separated as the most needy.  And while it has been pounded into American society that minorities are poverty stricken and must have the support of the government poverty knows not race.  Believe it or not there are plenty of white children, Islander, Chinese.....  And these communities need the idea that they have the same opportunities.  The same chance that everyone has to make a living.  Go to school and be free from government support.

But the real story is that we are encouraging all Americans to take from the government.  To redistribute wealth, even to the most wealthy.  It seems that we all need a handout from the government these days.

Of course, I do not blame Trump that state governments have shut down their economies.  But I expect his leadership.  Not through twitter or encouraging civil disobedience but offering the leadership he is paid to give.  Whether he denies his pay or not he is our president.   Act like it.  Get people back to work and off the government dole.  Leadership leads.  Not through acts of divisiveness, but through logical thought process and working together.  To get all Americans back to work.  Unless the goal is Socialism.

It depends on if the Fed sends me more money from the Trump stash.  $3,900 for a family of 5 can last awhile especially when schooling is online.  No new clothes to buy, record low gas prices, and stores offering door-buster items to bring me in.

Rather than blaming the President for COVID-19 while the death toll increases 2k a day, she should be offering more free money, every chance she gets.  Money for hospitals, unemployed, food pantries, and more until the President and Republicans scream stop.

Mo money Mo money Mo money!!!

Then they can blame President Trump for not caring about the dead and living.

I ain't saying it's right or fair, but I think it would be a more effective plan than condemning the President now before the bodies are counted.
