U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is trying to start a coronavirus version of the viral Ice Bucket Challenge, pushing politicians, celebrities and athletes to volunteer, donate or help their communities in other ways and share it online.
The Texas Republican launched the so-called #CombatCOVID19Challenge with Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand earlier this month, taking breakfast tacos and coffee to the Houston Police Officer’s Union.
Since then politicians from Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg to former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie have joined. Houston’s Jim “Mattress Mack†McIngvale, restaurateur David Chang and Fox News anchor Bret Baier have also taken part.
