CDC director tussles with reporters after his remarks about a second wave of coronavirus were misconstrued

Dr. Robert Redfield pushed back against a Washington Post report that claimed he said a second wave of coronavirus in the fall may be "more devastating."
The story quoted Redfield, who is the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as saying that a second wave of coronavirus in the fall could be "more difficult" for medical professionals because it will likely hit at the same time as the influenza season starts. In the headline, however, the Washington Post said the second wave would be "more devastating." During a press conference on Wednesday, Redfield clarified his remarks.
"I really do think it is important to clarify this as we build the confidence of the American people," Redfield said. "When I commented yesterday that there was a possibility of a fall-winter — next fall and winter, it could be more difficult, more complicated, when we had two respiratory illnesses circulating at the same time: influenza and the coronavirus-19."
"But I think it is really important to emphasize what I didn't say," he continued. "I didn’t say that this was going to be worse. I said it was going to be more difficult and potentially complicated because we will have flu and coronavirus circulating at the same time."
