Speaking of keeping the panic going... just in time for 2021 and timed with the release of two vaccines...England is reporting a “new strain” of the China Virus.

A definite possibility.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

Allegedly more contagious too. Which, considering how ineffective the mandates were this time around, means this one's likely unstoppable. IF true.

It doesn't have to be true to gin up another panic that's worse than the disease. They now have a template.

You're in the Dakotas, right?

One of the first places to see a marked decline in cases in this "second wave." And yet you won't hear a peep from Lockdown Annies in the media.
Correct. But we get national newsfeeds that talk of here like it was the Bubonic Plague or the Spanish Flu.

Yes, we have lost some people, but current positive cases statewide are less than 30% of peak levels, with roughly 2,900 active cases statewide. (of 760,000 population) You would never know there was such a profound number of recoveries.

A few extra lumps in the mask should help mess with the facial recognition software come the revolution.

Biden will be using the "Pointy-haired Boss" strategy against COVID-19. That means promoting masks and lockdowns and later claiming his leadership made a big difference while the vaccinations and warmer weather do the heavy lifting.

What would be the point of wearing a mask after one has been vaccinated.

Once Islamic rule is in place, we'll be used to wearing face coverings.

The flu virus has never been stopped.  It's been around for a long time.  No lockdowns.  No quarantines.  No one panicking.

Some strains are expected to be more prevalent in different years and they vaccinate accordingly.  People still die, even those who get the vaccine.

It's time to get over the paranoia.

The only surge was in testing around here, which predictably, led to a surge in cases. Makes you wonder how accurate the tests are. Seems new cases and testing tracked pretty well.

There was a spike here as well, mainly at the county jail and as part of mass testing at the local college before the holiday. Predictably, the liberals around here blame people not wearing masks. (Yet everywhere I go, the compliance is well over 90%.) BUT that began weeks before Thanksgiving. It stayed pretty much level the past few weeks and is now going down again (thankfully).

First rule of accounting - you get what you count.  In business, if you count costs, you get costs.  If you count revenue, you get revenue.  If you count profits, you get profits.

Same goes with Covid.  If you count cases, you get cases.  If you count deaths, you get deaths.  If you count recoveries, you get recoveries.  So far, the emphasis has been on counting cases and deaths.

No COVID baby boom: 300,000 fewer children will be born in 2021, and lockdowns preventing men and women from socializing are to blame
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/12/16/covid-19-baby-bust-coronavirus-pandemic-lead-birth-decline/6507974002/

Do the math. You haven't saved lives, you've just saved OLDER lives at the expense of slashing the birth rate to dangerously low levels. In the end, the same amount of people either die or don't come into existence that otherwise would.

Sounds like most of these would have ended up being illegitimate births.
Probably better off without them.

Recovery-to-Death ratio:
---------------------------
US - 32.69
ND - 69.87

Case-to-Recovery ratio:
---------------------------
US - 1.720
ND - 1.047

North Dakota is blowing away the national average on both counts.  Their reported infection percentage is 11.8.  Add in estimated asymptomatic cases, and North Dakota is approaching herd immunity.  There not another state other than South Dakota that has even come close.

Here a Bayes' Theorem probability exercise.

Question:  Let's say there is a disease that 1% of the population has.  There is a test for this disease that is 99% accurate either way.  If a person tests positive for the disease, what is the probability that they actually have the disease?

Answer: 50%
