I have to ask you, @musiclady  - what is going on with DeWine's sign language interpreter? What a performance.

She's a hoot, isn't she??

She's become one of the most popular people in the state!

WHitler went on to say this:

Unbelievable.

Princess Leia, to her antagonizer in the first movie, "The more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip though your fingers."  It's like that.

LOL!  Remember the Sign Language translator for O'Bastard in South Africa?   :rolling:
That's what Ohio Gov. DeWine's interpreter looks like - plus, she looks exactly like him. She did a gesture yesterday I could have sworn meant, "Get thee behind me, Satan," though I could be mistaken.

‘We Will Not Comply’ — Virginia Protesters Demand State Reopens

Justin Caruso   |   April 16, 2020 3:30 PM ET

Protesters gathered Thursday in front of the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond demanding that the state be reopened.

Virginians protesting stay-at-home orders due to coronavirus are following the lead of other protesters around the country. This week, protests occurred outside state capitols in Michigan, Kentucky, and North Carolina.

In North Carolina Tuesday, protesters were threatened and arrested by police, while in Michigan, there were protests against Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s lockdown orders Wednesday.

Local news outlet WFXR reports that three groups, End The Lockdown VA, Virginians Against Excessive Quarantine, and ReOpen Virginia, were involved in the “Reopen Virginia” demonstration.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer: Michigan Protesters ‘Endangering People’s Lives’

KYLE OLSEN   |   15 APRIL 2020

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer lashed out at the freedom protesters who surrounded the capitol on Wednesday, telling reporters they were “endangering people’s lives.”

Breitbart News reported live from the scene, which featured hundreds of people on the capitol lawn and thousands more in their cars, honking horns, blasting patriotic music, and waving American flags.

Whitmer, whom Joe Biden has said is on his short list for the vice presidential nomination, denounced the protesters, who were calling on her to rescind the onerous restrictions she had placed on the state’s citizens and let them go back to work.

“We know that this demonstration is going to come at a cost to people’s health,” Whitmer told reporters.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/04/15/governor-gretchen-whitmer-michigan-protesters-endangering-peoples-lives/

Whitler doubles down on fascism.
How about that? In a tremendous gaffe, a Democrat accidentally called those who disagreed with her "people".

Mark your calendar.

The folks most at risk were the protesters themselves.

I was watching the sign interpreter during a NY news conference the other day.  After the oral speaker stepped away from the podium, another stepped forward to deliver the same message in Spanish.  But the sign interpreter just stood there and did nothing.  Clearly, this interpreter did not know how to sign in Spanish.  New York should have had a Spanish sign interpreter to fill in.  It's not fair.
:pondering:

(And here I thought that signing was all the same language. Hu gnu?)

True confession time.I now have several distant cousins living here who managed to escape from NYC,and  they are never returning.  One or more of their grandparents moved there during or after WW-2 for the jobs or opportunities, and the first one decided to come visit distant relatives on his high school graduation trip. He has never been back home since arriving here. He called his parents and told them to mail his tools and clothing to him because he wasn't coming back. Since then, several of his cousins have followed in his footprints, and none of them will go back. Not even for a relatives funeral on a short trip.

I once asked the original cousin what about visiting his mother and father, and he told me "They know where I live, and if they want to see me they are welcome to come visit."

Since he has been here over 30 years now without ever once going back,it seems he is serious about this.

Yeah, 30 years is an indicator...

Wisconsin extends stay-at-home order through May 26, closes schools for rest of academic year
https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/public-global-health/493177-wisconsin-extends-stay-at-home-through-may-26-closes

Quote
Wisconsin on Thursday extended its coronavirus stay-at-home order to be in effect until May 26 and closed its schools for the rest of the academic year.

Gov. Tony Evers (D) had previously indicated an extension to the order, originally effective through April 24, may be necessary as states and local governments across the country have dug in on their efforts to fight the coronavirus.

Evers is allowing some adjustments to the original order, including opening golf courses.

But conservatives have been pressuring Evers and other governors to reopen the government and end the stay-at-home order to allow the economy to function. Some have planned protests at the state Capitol on the original end date, a week from Friday.

Not to my knowledge. I did have a few days I felt poorly, coughed up a bunch of junk and had a slight fever, and I got over it, but that was weeks ago. I took some erythromycin (500 mg/ day--which is a macrolide antibiotic, like Azithromycin) for a few days. That was back in February.

Glad you're better. Wonder if you had a mild version? In any event, if it comes back, be prepared.

Doctors Suspect Mystery COVID-19 Lung Problems, Plea for New Approach

Quote
By Peter Schelden on 04/09/2020 2:00 PM

Source: MedicineNet Health News

Some doctors are questioning the way ventilators are being used for people with serious cases of COVID-19. Why? More data shows a high death rate for patients treated under current ventilator practices.

At the same time, these doctors are saying their patients behave more like they have high altitude sickness than a viral infection. They talk about two different types of COVID-19 patients with differing severe lung problems.

While some patients respond to treatment as expected, doctors also describe patients whose lungs seem relatively fine, but who still can't get enough oxygen into their blood. These patients may make up the majority with severe infections.

>snip<

High altitude sickness often improves with taking breaks when needed, staying hydrated, and eating a proper diet. He also says that two drugs can be taken to help prevent the condition, but also warns of their serious side effects:

DIAMOX (acetazolamide): DIAMOX (acetazolamide) allows a person to breathe faster and so metabolize more oxygen, thereby minimizing the symptoms caused by poor oxygenation.
Dexamethasone (a steroid): It decreases brain and other swelling reversing the effects of acute mountain sickness (AMS). However steroids have been shown to be unhelpful in treating ARDS, and may worsen symptoms instead.

Dr. Shiel advises that these medications only be taken at the recommendation of a doctor. A study published March 30 specifically warns against treating COVID-19 patients with steroids, as the WHO has reported conflicting evidence with respect to their use in treating viral infections.

This came to my attention through a friend who linked a YouTube here.

The rest is from a web search.

Acetazolamide, Nifedipine and Phosphodiesterase Inhibitors: Rationale for Their Utilization as Adjunctive Countermeasures in the Treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

This study notes the similarities to High Altitude Pulmonary Edema, and suggests treatment of advanced cases with a similar regimen for the HAPE may be appropriate.

Quote
This review describes COVID-19 in parallel to HAPE. Deranged respiratory parameters that are present in both conditions are highlighted. The utilization of medications found to be effective in HAPE for the treatment of COVID-19 is proposed. Given the medical emergency of a growing contagion and the thousands of lives at stake, expedient attempts to improve survival are needed. Acetazolamide, Nifedipine and Phosphodiesterase inhibitors may present an opportunity for countermeasure development.

This is plausible. Probably a ban on "large gatherings" until a proven vaccine becomes available. Certainly not before infection levels have fallen to a point where new infections are demonstrated to be negligible over a fixed period of time. We are far from that point as of yet, certainly wherever large populations exist.

I wonder how many people are going to be willing to gather with large numbers of others, at least for a while, even after the epidemic fades...?

FYI @Smokin Joe
Earlier this week the North Dakota Industrial Commission (NDIC) estimated that 3,600 wells in the state were shut in during March and an additional 1,000 wells have stopped producing so far this month. Roughly 16,000 wells were producing in February. The production cuts from these shut-in wells are estimated to total 260 Mbbl/d. The shut-ins coincide with regulatory changes since the price collapse to suspend requirements that operators either plug and abandon wells that have been shut in for 12 months or bring them back on-line. The regulator has also eased restrictions on DUCs, allowing operators to delay completion activity beyond the normal period of within 12 months of drilling operations. These two regulatory changes will be in effect until WTI reaches at least $50/bbl for 90 days.

May I jump in and ask if any Briefers have been stricken with COVID-19?

Well she's not a briefer, but even though she hasn't been tested, from her symptoms, we're pretty sure that my daughter has the virus. She has had a range of symptoms for about 2 weeks now. Lack of energy, no sense of taste, dry cough, some shortness of breath, only feverish for a day, some body aches. But who knows. It could all be psychosomatic, but I don't think so.

Excellent move by the NDIC (Lynn Helms used to work for Hess, about the time I was doing wells for them, he's an old hand.).
This permits the oil to stay in the ground until the price comes back up, letting operators cut costs and not sell oil at a loss, saving on water disposal costs as well.
At the same time, because the State's extraction tax is based on a percentage of the oil revenue, that will allow the State to make more money later in tax revenues as the oil is selling at a higher price. (it's a win-win),

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

Smithfield Foods Becomes Largest Coronavirus Hotbed In United States, South Dakota Governor Yet To Mandate Stay Home Order

Quote
Smithfield Foods’ meat processing plant in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has become the largest coronavirus hotbed in the United States with about 735 associate cases, while Gov. Kristi Noem has yet to issue a stay-at-home order.

Nearly 600 employees and 135 close contacts of now-closed the pork processing plant have tested positive for coronavirus, according to Argus Leader, making it the largest coronavirus hotspot in the United States, surpassing the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt and Cook County Jail in Chicago.

Smithfield Foods employee Augustin Rodriguez, 64, became the first coronavirus fatality from the plant’s outbreak when he died Tuesday morning, according to the Argus Leader, which reported that Rodriguez continued working at the plant after he began to have symptoms of COVID-19; he was hospitalized on April 4.

Smithfield Foods, owned by Hong Kong-based WH Group, is the largest pork processor in the world—and in addition to its Sioux Fall plant, Smithfield facilities in Cudahy, Wisconsin, Martin City, Missouri, and Arnold, Pennsylvania, have closed after employees at these locations tested positive for coronavirus.

Someone asked if anyone here had COVID19.

It is both my belief and my wife's that we had COVID19 back in early January.  We were both sicker than either of us have ever been.  I am 66 and she at the time was 46.

My wife is a physician/CDC, and she keeps a small drugstore.  She was the first to get sick, and I followed, presumably getting it from her.  She knew something was unusual from the get-go.  We started taking antibiotics, Tamiflu, and mega doses of Vitamin C.

In addition, I believe 100% that Chartreuse Green is medicinal.  It is a liquor, made by French monks from 140 herbs, and since about 1983, I discovered that when I am becoming symptomatic, I always take a drink of Chartreuse before going to bed.  4 out of 5 times, I awaken symptom free.  Through the years, my wife has also become a believer, and she is not into alcohol.  So, perhaps Chartreuse helped as well.

In any case, we were both very sick, staying in bed fighting this.  After the fever abated, we were both weak for a long period.  It took quite a while for me to recover.  Not sure if we had the weaker version or the harsher version, but neither of us want it again.

If our government healthcare folks were doing their job, we would have had an antibody test to verify if we had the virus.  Someone is dropping the ball big time, and I can only figure too many of them are anti Trumpers, dragging their feet to make Trump look bad.

I didn't agree with either on a number of issues, but if I only wanted to argue with myself I wouldn't need a computer.

You/me/none of us will ever learn anything new unless there is someone to occasionally tell us we are wrong, and why we are wrong. THAT we can argue with. Silence on their part makes debate impossible, and silence on OUR part means they must be right because we have no counter argument.

Don't go,Fred.

I like to stretch my drug dollar as much as the next guy, but that’s not the point.  The point is this. 10 years have past, 20 years have past, 30 years have past and no flashbacks, what a gip that turned out to be, just more horse sh!t by the big acid companies, that’s all it is.

@Once-Ler

As usual,I am with Norm.

All these years later I am still feeling SORTA cheated, and I am still waiting for my freebie trips.

Can't really complain too much because I did have some mighty wonderful experiences.

BUT.....,like all really good things, there comes a time when you either gotta quit,or turn pro. I decided to quit.

Granted,it took me losing several months without a single clue as to where I had been or what I had been doing, but washing it down with white whiskey in gallon milk jugs might have contributed some of the confusion.

Not that it matters. For reasons I will never understand,I suddenly became stone-cold sober one day in an instant, and looked around me wondering about little thinks, like where I had been living,if I had a job, when I bought the car I was driving, etc, etc, etc.

Quitting was an EASY decision to make. If you can't remember what you have been doing, you surely haven't been having any fun,and having fun was the sole reason for taking drugs and drinking.

I can truthfully say I don't even miss it the way it was for me right before I quit because I had blacked out and had no freaking clue about what I had been doing.

Been sober ever since, and that "moment" happened some time in the late 70's.

Still,I would take a nice "freebie" if I could get it,and giggle like a school girl while it was happening. As I am sure some of you know, there are some things you just can't explain to people who have never "been there".

May I jump in and ask if any Briefers have been stricken with COVID-19?

Someone asked if anyone here had COVID19.

It is both my belief and my wife's that we had COVID19 back in early January.  We were both sicker than either of us have ever been.  I am 66 and she at the time was 46.

I have a similar story.

I became suspicious over the last few weeks that both my wife and I got covid one week apart in early February. She (working at a nursing home) was first to get sick with persistent symptoms, then me with less severe symptoms that lasted four or five weeks.

A couple of weeks ago several patients on the fifth floor (where ICU patients are treated) began dying. It must have freaked out everybody because they closed the floor and gutted it, stripped every fixture out and did a thorough decontamination.

Smithfield Foods Becomes Largest Coronavirus Hotbed In United States, South Dakota Governor Yet To Mandate Stay Home Order

Smithfield, as a food processing facility, would have been exempt from the order anyway, so it wouldn't have done one bit of good.

But hey, let's stoke the groupthink mentality.

Smithfield, as a food processing facility, would have been exempt from the order anyway, so it wouldn't have done one bit of good.

But hey, let's stoke the groupthink mentality.
Here, let's throw some gasoline on that fire.
On May 29, 2013, WH Group, then known as Shuanghui Group or Shineway Group, the largest meat producer in China, announced the purchase of Smithfield Foods for $4.72 billion, a sale first suggested in 2009.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Smithfield, as a food processing facility, would have been exempt from the order anyway, so it wouldn't have done one bit of good.

But hey, let's stoke the groupthink mentality.

The headline may be misleading, but the story is disturbing.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

HEY! Cut the dictators that own China some slack! After all, they already own China and everyone and everything in China,so they have nothing to spend the trillions on that they pull in from America, thanks primarily to the Bush and the Clinton Crime Families.

Can you imagine the horrors of having trillions in cash, and nothing to buy with it?

Have you no mercy? Where is your humanity? </S>

Makes a guy wonder what would happen if all the dictators there got sick and died....

How would the Chinese react to being free?
