Maryland releases race breakdown of coronavirus cases for first time

Maryland released information about the race of confirmed coronavirus cases for the first time Thursday, reporting that 42.7% of those infected whose race was known were black, 31.9% were white and 11.8% were another race.

Race data is not available for more than 20% of Maryland’s now 6,185 confirmed cases, but Gov. Larry Hogan said Tuesday he is directing the state health lab to report such data from its tests and “be as proactive as anyone in the nation” in pushing private labs to do the same.

US Charges 2 With Terror Crimes Over Threats to Spread CCP Virus

The Justice Department charged two people with federal terrorism offenses on April 8 for allegedly claiming they were intentionally trying to spread the CCP virus.

The charges, in cases in Texas and Florida, come about two weeks after Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen instructed federal prosecutors across the United States that they could charge people who threaten to spread the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus under the terrorism statutes because the Justice Department considers it a “biological agent” under the law.

“Threats or attempt to use COVID-19 as a weapon against Americans will not be tolerated,” Rosen wrote in the memo to U.S. attorneys and the heads of all Justice Department agencies, including the FBI.

The race data is collected on intake and is voluntary.  A lot of people choose not to answer race or ethnicity, so the numbers will never be accurate.

So the left's efforts to make this whole thing somehow race related will fail.....

The masks reduce the velocity of your breath and thus the distance it can travel before the virus sinks out of the air.

Out of an abundance of caution, I am covering my face with a folded-up shawl when I'm around people not in immediate family (such as in a grocery store). Folded up to four layers it can reduce things by half.

Cloth over your mouth/nose could also act as an atomizer making the water particles smaller so they stay in the air longer... Who knows... The virus is also likely smaller than an N95 mask will reliably filter. So the only way to find out these things is detailed testing.

No.  It's a good point.  Poor lifestyle choices create many comorbidities..... no matter what color one is.  Though very healthy people are dying daily from this, the majority of people dying have other health issues involved.

Idiots.  We had a TSA agent at our local airport test positive for COVID-19.  First time in weeks I actually ventured out to the store.  I had on an anti-viral mask covering my face from just above my nose to just below my chin and gloves.  The store was clearly marked as to the distance people needed to be to correctly social distance from one another.  Very few adhered to the social distancing markers, even fewer wore something around their nose and mouths and two wore bandanas around their mouth but left their nose exposed.  I had gone to the doctors and thought that since I was out, I'd stop at the store...nope...not going out again for awhile.  Too many people who are doing nothing to protect themselves or protect others.  Very inconsiderate.

I think schools are all "closed for the season".

Whoever is stopping the cars isn't one of Ream's deputies. Instead, the police impersonator is breaking the law and putting himself at extreme risk, because traffic stops are among the most dangerous things most law enforcement officers do. The stops happened several times in March.

"For the life of me, I don't understand why someone would want to do this," Reams says. "I don't think there's a law enforcement agency in the state that has time to do that kind of thing."

The lockdown imposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24 March would always have posed a great challenge, but it has been further complicated by the economic outlook. In recent years, rapid growth has increased living standards for many, but now, like elsewhere, the coronavirus crisis looks likely to cause the greatest suffering to the poorest and most disadvantaged.

There are currently 5,194 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in India, but only around 100,000 tests – one for every 12,500 people – have been performed. India already has the largest cohort of people in the world living with respiratory disease, thanks primarily to its chronic air pollution and high rates of tuberculosis. Accordingly, the government has chosen to treat coronavirus as a national disaster, calling on its National Disaster Management Authority, which is tasked with disaster mitigation planning for events such as flooding, drought, and terrorism, as well as possible nuclear attack and biological disaster. “India is at a critical stage and even a single misstep could lead to the deadly virus spreading like wildfire,” said Modi as he introduced the lockdown. “If we continue to be negligent, India will have to pay a heavy price.”

New York City is now the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States. As of Thursday, there were some 160,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New York state and more than 7,000 deaths — 43 percent of the ­national toll. Most of these cases have occurred in Gotham and its suburbs.

Other urban areas, however, have performed much better than we have. The Bay Area, for example, has about the same population as New York City, but only 115 deaths from the coronavirus. San Francisco proper has seen only 10 deaths so far, about 2 percent of the per-capita rate in New York.

New York and San Francisco are both major urban centers, so why did we do so much worse? Why are their infection rates so different? New York’s density is likely one part of it. As is the fact that the Big Apple receives many more visitors from abroad. But leadership is a big part of the equation, too.

SF Bay Area Counties went to Shelter-in-Place in mid March. The Bay Area SiP and the subsequent statewide SiP are not super stringent (I'm "essential" because I do something essential at my employer who provides products and services to various essential industries and orgs). While Mayor de Blah-Blah went #Resist, urging NYCers to party on, the SF Bay Area was newly under SiP order. And while the SF Bay Area does have BART, trains, light rail, and buses, cars are still the main means of transportation for many.

Mayor de Blah-Blah  and Goobernor Cumo pooed the screwch by going #Resist instead of urging people to act responsibly.

You can rely on the Dem media to scream bloody murder about "Trump's victims" if any restrictions are lifted 5/1, because they are counting on a destroyed economy to defeat Trump in November.   Another 30 days will cause a lot more damage, especially if it's perceived they've been cooking the books on the numbers, which it's becoming painfully obvious they did in most parts of the country.
