The luxury of apocalypticism

Keep in mind that two generations have been fed the intellectual pablum of the flesh-eating zombie Apocalypse, and frankly, there are relatively few visions of the future which are not abjectly dystopian, be those in movies or print. (not to mention the daily drumming of the panic mongering media).
People suckled on that teat are just waiting for the breakdown so they can feel vindicated in feeling it was coming.
While COVID-19 has shown us that we can make great strides against a novel disease in relatively little time (if we just get government out of the way), it has also shown us that the herd is twitchy, ready to stampede.
That, to me is the greatest cause for concern at present.
After debunking the image of obviously European military trucks lined up in Lombardy which had been repurposed (the image, not the trucks) to be presented as evidence of Martial Law (here in the US), along with a facebooked video showing incomplete humvees being transported by rail (evidence of Martial law in Chicago, supposedly, like the hood rats on the south side would play '
dat), empty shelves in the stores, and people with that look (you know the look I mean) in their eyes, well I'm just sick and tired of panic.
The nearest confirmed case is still 150 miles away.
