Fewer posts/people posting???
« on: March 21, 2020, 11:40:40 pm »
Is it just me,or does it seem to anyone else that there are fewer people posting and fewer posts being made?

Has this damn virus crap bummed everybody out and/or bored them to the point they are finding other things to do?

The number of posts per day has been pretty consistent since the beginning of the year.  Here's a link to the stats (it's linked at the bottom of the Home Page):

Down at the bottom of the states page are the monthly numbers, and each month can be expanded by clicking on it.

It's so depressing...

Yes it is, and nerves are frayed.  On top of that, we are watching the ghouls that call themselves "Democrats" cheering for evil to triumph.  It worse than usual because we can see many people close to us being thrown out of work, and it looks a heck of a lot like 1930 out there.  Nobody wants to relive the terrible times our parents used to tell us about.

The Supreme Court shut down for a while. My Gun News site is down. No Impeachment News. Not much Border Wall Building. There is another Caravan Coming. Not many earthquakes and volcanoes this week. No one talks Climate Change anymore. No more Super Tuesdays, are there anymore? And Mass Shootings have stopped, thank goodness.

Haven't noticed this myself, but if true I can only assume it is the result of lack of variety.
Most post/threads are about the virus. I am already deluged in that stuff from TV.

You know I keep hearing that, but my daily routines haven't changed one iota, maybe because I haven't had a job in years. I go the store whenever I need to and have been able to find everything I need, I'm out walking everyday. Now there have been some challenges like getting the bread my 89 year old mother wants from Boudin's Bakery used to be a 2.5 mile drive but with locations closed it's now an over twenty mile round trip, but they have lot's of bread for sale.

Heck in some ways it's better, less idiots on the road, special senior only hours at Costco, Trader Joes and the grocery stores. I am pissed at the over reaction that has put so many people out of work. Fortunately my son and daughter in law can work from home as can my daughter(though she works for a payroll/accounting company  who knows) and my son in law works in construction and if some of the smaller contractors pull off he'll be sitting.

I don't usually conspiracy theory but this sure seems to be a boon to socialist/democrat governors like our California Gov. Noisome in their being able to control the population. 9999hair out0000

I did leave the house today. First I went for a drive as I just needed to get out. Only in the low 50’s today but sunny so I drove with the windows down and the sunroof open.  At first I started to make note of what business that would normally be open on a midday on Saturday but found it depressing so I just turned up the radio, listened to some mellow jazz. Traffic was lighter than normal but there were plenty of people out and about.

Then I went to the grocery store (for reference I’m just north of York, PA). I didn’t need much except for carrots because I forgot them the other day when I picked up corn beef, cabbage and potatoes. The only fresh carrots they had were these huge bags or the baby carrots, so I got the baby carrots. Yes, I know I could have cooked and frozen the extra but my roommate’s refrigerator and freezer isn’t all that big and we share it.  I picked up some more ginger ale and coffee pods.

My other observations at the grocery store:

Not super crowded and a bit better stocked than Friday a week ago when it was insanity.

But still no paper products – no TP or paper towels or napkins, no zip lock bags, very low on garbage bags too, no bleach or disinfectant cleaners or wipes, no dish washing liquid, no eggs, slim pickings on any type of fresh meat, low but not out of canned goods like tuna fish and soups, low but not out of pasta, but they did have a bit more than last week. Still plenty of fresh produce and fruit and aside from no eggs the dairy department was looking better. I got a quart of buttermilk because I wanted to make some Irish Soda bread to go with the corned beef and cabbage I was making today.

The other things I noticed, as I also noticed when I went earlier this week, was a few more people wearing masks and or gloves, workers at the store going around with a spray bottle and wipes and cleaning – carts, door handles of all types, just about everything (which made me wonder if that shouldn’t be happening more even without COVID-19) and that while people were keeping more of a distance from each other, especially in line, more people were talking to each other.

The woman in line behind me commented “well I only came for a couple of things but most of the things I wanted, they were out of so I got this stuff instead” – nothing crazy, no hoarding.  I laughed and said I did the same, like I wanted carrots but instead got baby carrots and microwave popcorn instead.

So I made corn beef and cabbage for the first time in the Instant Pot. The corned beef turned out great but after it was done, I put the potatoes, cabbage and carrots in, and the recipe I found said to pressure cook for 2-3 minutes and I thought that wasn’t going to be enough so I did 10 – big mistake because they got overcooked and mushy. Still tasted good but I was angry at myself for that rooky mistake. And the soda bread didn’t turn out so great either – not baked enough in the middle. But I may try it again, perhaps with a different recipe tomorrow. happy77

I did leave the house today. First I went for a drive as I just needed to get out. Only in the low 50’s today but sunny so I drove with the windows down and the sunroof open.

I won't go back to town for a while... I am good for  2 weeks or a month on produce and stuff I might need from town...

Banks are all closed other than drive through... Can't pay my bills, what's left of them, without some electronic means, which I do not possess, nor can I remedy, as I need to get at a bank to get a debit card made. So I reckon my bills are just gonna have to go long.

The Cenex and the ranch store are still open and normal... Grocery stores are packed with folks, and still not a lot there really... I went out twice last week and between the two times, got about 80% made...

So no, I am pretty settled in now, and while I may go out, I doubt very much that I will be pointed toward town till I am absolutely out of luck and HAVE to go in to take care of business.

Yeah... Things are just fine around here, and over to the ranch, and even just around... Till I go to town, and then it's freakville.

It was sunny here yesterday and I went to the beach for the day.  Lots of people had the same idea.  It was nice seeing families out and about.  The little ones wading into the water, making sand castles and throwing stones into the water.  You wouldn't even know if you didn't know.

I sure hope they don't quarantine the entire country.  Hope they don't quarantine Washington state.  I think it is wise for people at risk with underlying conditions and the elderly to stay at home.  But the rest of us need our vitamin D in the form of sunshine.  And we need fresh air and a fresh outlook.
