PM Netanyahu: The people of Israel are now ordered to stay in their homes – Coronavirus tally up to 573
by BtNews · March 19, 2020

BREAKING: PM Netanyahu addressed the nation to update Israelis on the government’s latest guidelines for fighting the coronavirus, saying that it’s mandatory to stay home for the next week, with the exception of buying food, basic essentials, medicine and medical procedures.

Those whose work is defined by the government as “essential” will still be allowed to go to work, carrying an identification card in the case at all times.

The new partial nationwide closures will now be enforced by the police.

“The people of Israel are now ordered to stay in their homes. This is not a suggestion. This is not a recommendation. It is now a command.”The new restrictions will be enforced by the police. It will be put in place for 7 days,” PM Netanyahu said.

We have a "doubters" thread, there really isn't much of a reason to time and again, post the same information.

http://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,394834.new.html#new

These matters have been discussed fairly in dept there and in other parts of the forum,  that's fine if one wishes to doubt. Nothing wrong with that, nor is it wrong to say, this has already been addressed.

And they are saying 17 of the dead in Italy are under 50 and with medical conditions just like 99% of those over 50 at that. That is posted in the past 1 or 2 pages, if I am accurate.

Youth, though safer, are seeing some in the ICU, are needing medicines, defibrillators, respirators and so on, nurses, doctors, oh and bed.

Deciding if a high risk elderly patient should be attended to before a younger patient certainly indicates, a number of youth are at risk too.

Alone, Rome's seniors live in lockdown silence

Rome (AFP) - Leaning out his window, the dashing octogenarian looks down on the little street in the ancient heart of Rome.

It looks desperately empty, again, and Roberto Fichera could easily not see another human being today -- a growing problem in Europe's oldest country.

"I am a homebody and I like to take care of myself," says Fichera, who might come across the odd stranger at the pharmacy, should he decide to venture out and pick up his pills.

While Italy is a country of seniors -- the average age last year was 45.4, higher than anywhere else in Europe -- very few of them live in retirement homes.

Looking at these numbers and remembering some of the conversations recently on Government run healthcare... makes me glad we never went down that path.

I'd think we also have to remember, this happened in a fairly brief amount of time. A month's time or so.

Per people saying this, can they point out how it is the fault of national health vs. having a private practitioner?  We just shouldn't sugar coat it, there may be other factors involved and I know I'm glad we didn't go to National Health.

I'm not sure there is a clear case, a private sector, going to one's doctor would have saved the day.

There is surely, a lot of fault and blame to go around. I think again, some of this has been covered.

The essence of triage is to distribute available resources so the maximum number survive.
Unfortunately, that means deciding who is most likely to make it.
In that instance an older patient with a less advanced case may take precedence over a younger one on death's door, rathr than let the older person's case advance and risk losing both..
There are no hard and fast rules, which makes it something very stressful, fraught with second thoughts and lifelong 'what ifs..'.
Yes, there are younger patients, some serious, but almost all have underlying health conditions.

Coronavirus: Why is India testing so little?
Soutik Biswas India correspondent

"We have a simple message to all countries - test, test, test," World Health Organisation (WHO) head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters in Geneva earlier this week.

He was alluding to the coronavirus outbreak, which has killed more than 8,600 people and infected more than 207,000 in at least 159 countries.

"All countries should be able to test all suspected cases, they cannot fight this pandemic blindfolded," he said.

Well on the flip side if many people are asymptomatic and stay that way then a large part of the population has been infected and developed immunity to it so there should be no second wave. Unless it mutates.

The Spanish flu came in three waves apparently with the 2nd wave being most deadly. They speculate that it mutated into something more deadly and then into some less deadly.

For a nation with over 1 billion people, there are only 173 confirmed cases and 4 deaths.  This should be good news.

Someone posted a stat showing only 60+ critical cases out of the 13k+ in all of the US. This should be cause for optimism too.

Except for the fact that the country is shutting down as if people were dropping dead in the streets.  Which could put us smack dab in the middle of an even 'greater' depression than the first one.  What's really going on here?

The Mexican government's response to COVID-19 is insufficient

The views expressed by contributors are their own and not the view of The Hill

The Mexican government has been insufficient in its response to the coronavirus. With poorly communicated and inconsistent messaging that offers no clear guidelines, their federal government’s inaction has given rise to widespread rumors that are beginning to stoke panic and insecurity.

Given that Mexico can look to the examples of what not to do in the early onset of this crisis — namely China in January, Italy in February and to a certain extent the United States in the first days of March — one would think political leaders there would be implementing different strategies. So far, 118 cases have been reported in Mexico.

We have not heard strong messaging from the Mexican government to “flatten the curve” in an effort to reduce rates of infection, or to practice self-isolation to mitigate transmission. President Andres Manuel López Obrador is adamant about not closing Mexico’s borders or exercising caution at airports. Perhaps his logic stems out of concerns about imposing barriers on trade. However, he has not said as much, and it is further eroding public confidence in his government’s lacking response.

I’m sure the shut down will help stem the spread of this virus but there are so many other ways this is so dangerous.

And the irreparable harm that it will do to the economy will end up costing how many 'more' lives.   Considering the fatality rate of this virus, it is exceedingly reckless to just shut down the whole country.... and then dole out free money as a quick fix.   Ain't gonna work.  At least, not to the good.

Not surprising.  But clearly is a problem on the border.  Because it still isn't secure.  Perhaps its time military to fully guard the entire border.
