Now that Sen. Bernie Sanders is surging and a populist-left Sanders versus populist-right Trump race looks more and more likely, it might finally be time for America’s leadership class to start looking inward and asking what’s going on. People don’t throw out all their normal political leaders for a TV-host billionaire and a socialist who honeymooned in the Soviet Union when they are satisfied with the state of affairs in their country. Something’s going wrong for the American people. They are desperately searching for new political leaders who will shake things up.

You would think the first question our leaders would ask would be, “Why is this happening?” What is going so wrong for people that they throw out all the establishment political leaders? There is perhaps no greater sign of how out of touch our political establishment is than its failure to seriously discuss this question, three-plus years into the Trump presidency.

Quote
In the corporate world, people see that failure comes with no cost. Actually, for those at the very top, failure is usually now accompanied by a huge payout. Adam Neumann, co-founder of WeWork, ran his company into the ground through gross mismanagement and walked away with more than $1 billion for his trouble. Marissa Mayer took over a struggling Yahoo and drove it much further into disrepair...

Snip

These are just a few prime examples. It happens all the time. The lesson people take is that the rules are different for America’s elites. It’s a no-lose proposition. Not surprisingly, people don’t like it.

Bernie Sanders is attracting a lot interest not just from low income Americans but from the middle class who have been spinning their wheels for decades.

I'll take spinning my wheels over getting dragged backwards. I guess they can't see past the "Free stuff", and don't realize how much worse things could be. Bernie isn't going to make them better.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

A more appropriate question would be,"Why didn't they do this 20  20 years ago?

Look who led the way.
Cuba (NYT article proclaiming how Castro was going to set up a democracy) and Walter Cronkite, the Voice of the NVA.

If we ever forget, it is our own media which have paved the way for Communist advances in this hemisphere and elsewhere, and continue to do so, right here at home.

(and, back when, Kaiser Wilhelm sent an agitator to Russia to make the Russian Army less effective during WWI by causing domsetic problems for the Tsar. The agitator? Lenin.)

Many reasons for our deep malaise; among them,
the cold reality that we have abandoned the vision of our Founders.
Additionally we have chosen material betterment as our highest aspiration;
virtually eliminating any spiritual sensibilities.
Anyone disputing this suggest they take the blinders off and look cold and
hard at the condition of religions such as Judaism and Roman Catholicism.
Further compare what we label Art w/the Art created by those who
preceded us, commencing w/the Ancient Greeks.

Enough have abandoned their classical education and followed their wannabe emperors to the haberdashery.

Some of the malaise is intentional, the result of a combination of policy and stupidity, both orchestrated by those who have abandoned the principles and morals of our founders for fun and profit.
