Are Republicans Really United?
by Noah Rothman

To judge by the most visible congressional Republicans, the party is united in abject contempt for President Donald Trump’s impeachment. In truth, a sizable portion of the Republican Party’s voters have adopted a more nuanced posture.

“Republican voters,” FiveThirtyEight’s headline advertised, “increasingly back the GOP’s move to block impeachment witnesses.” And the text that followed delivered on the promise. The Ipsos survey that FiveThirtyEight sponsored found that support among Republicans for calling new witnesses to testify in the Senate’s trial of the president declined by seven points from December. But it was a decline from 48 percent to 41 percent. Given the information climate in which Republican voters are steeped–an environment characterized by indignant punditry and dismissive politicians heaping scorn upon these proceedings and discarding evidence that the president behaved recklessly–it’s remarkable that about two in every five Republicans do not share the views of their party’s elites.

FiveThirtyEight is not alone in its findings. A Yahoo News/YouGov survey released this week found that among the whopping 85 percent of all respondents who want to see the Senate seek new relevant witness testimony are 43 percent of Republicans. There is no ambiguity in these polls about how Republicans feel about Trump; they do not believe that the charges against him merit his removal from office. But that conclusion has not yet led a significant minority of the party’s base voters to conclude that the Senate is obliged to make a mockery of this process.

This is a classic example of failing to see the ambiguity in a polling question.

Those GOP voters who want to see witnesses may still believe the process is an absolute joke, and are not be thinking of anti-Trump witnesses at all, but rather just want to see the Bidens, the whistleblower, etc., on the stand under oath.   Not because they think there's any merit to impeachment, but because they think it is a sham that should be exposed.

The Republicans are united for one thing, and one thing only:  Personal feelings aside, Trump won the election fair and square, and the Rats must not be permitted to pull off a coup.  Good job, Rats, you found a way to get the Republicans together in opposition to you.

Bingo.  GOP unity is of the circling-of-the-wagons variety.   Many of us have significant misgivings about the President, and fear he is going to cost us both the Presidency and the Senate.  But a vote with clenched nose is still a vote.   And the issue right now isn't the President, but the fascist mindset of his fanatical critics who despise the voters who elected him and seek to cancel the peoples' opportunity to render their own verdict on the last four years.

I may neither respect nor love the President, but I sure as heck revere the Constitution and view the Democrats as a mortal threat to the future of our Republic and the sovereignty of the American people.   That is enough to get me to the polls and to shout from the rooftops about the danger we face from these hate-fueled maggots.

Amen and Amen!!!  ANYONE who want this Republic to continue to stand must realize this.  Should the leftist socialists/marxists get in there are no do overs.  Our Republic will turn into a socialistic entity --those that somehow think it can be changed back  in a future election (?) to a Republic once she falls is absolutely absurd.

Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
