That article had so much potential... squandered.

I'm still not sure what I just read.

Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

You left out the part about the Kaiser sending Lenin to Moscow to throw a monkey wrench into the Tsar's government to make his (Wilhelm's) war go a mite better. Yes,the kaiser is responsible for Communism in Russia, Stalin, and all that came from that.

@Smokin Joe

Well,it all kinda/sorta worked out for Germany in the 20's and 30's because the Fascist Nazi's were able to lease a huge vacant part of the USSR from their Communist Cousins the Soviets in order to be able to develop the war weapons and tactics denied to them by the Armistice that ended WW-1.

And,of course,after they and their Soviet pals jointly invaded and split Poland,the Nazi's then turned around and used those same weapons and tactics to invade and damn near conquer their former Goomba,Uncle Joe Stalin. They would have been successful too,if it hadn't been for the Communists newest fellow traveler,Uncle FDR and his commie cousin-wife.

BTW,PLEASE note that the exact day Fascist Germany invaded Communist Russia was the very same day that Fascism became evil in the eyes of the left. Right up to that instant,it was just peachy-keen.

It was also the anniversary of Napoleon's invasion of Russia. History did repeat. I think the things which also contributed to the inevitable defeat of the Germans in Russia were the Winter, Stalin's willingness to throw every Russian body in the way of the Nazis and starve his own to deprive the Germans of anything useful, and yes, the  Murmansk Run (convoys of aid, courtesy of FDR).

But never, ever, discount the effects of the Soviet winter on the Germans. Those Russian peasants were used to surviving such with little enough, but it was murder on the mechanization of the day and people who were not accustomed to dealing with it.
But never, ever,

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I do believe some German General refereed to their toughest foe as "General February".

It also didn't help the Nazi's that the military genius know as Hitler decided the conquest of that tiny little place called Russia would be so swift there was no need to send winter clothing or equipment in the supply trains following the troops.

And once it did get seriously snowy and cold,Hitler blamed the troops for freezing to death because if they had fought hard enough they wouldn't have needed winter clothes and made their Fuehrer appear to have made a mistake.

That was when the German High Command probably wished they were higher,because they had started a world war with a fool at the throttle.
