@Cyber Liberty

I currently have a vacation planned for the area in two weeks.  Not gambling, but I was flying into LAS and then trekking out from there into Utah and AZ.  But with everything closed in LV, I am guessing that this is no longer an option.  What is the word on the street?  Is it still worth chancing, or should I go to Hawaii instead?

Vegas is probably down for the full 30 days, and we're only 2 days into it.  Hawaii's nice, but I fear nowhere's going to be any fun for a month.

Far better than Trump arguing with that NBC reporter.  What the H was that about?

Thanks for your response @Applewood .  I agree.  On the other hand I have recently considered that President Trump could possibly be human with feelings, and watching his legacy of a strong 3-year economy swirl down the drain in 2 weeks could be frustrating and infuriating.  He is the President and shouldn't act in malice, but we all fall short in the eyes of the Lord.  Thankfully, the President was mostly back on message today, praising others for their diligence, and co-operation, and unity.

Here are several of my takes on the efficacy of owning the liberal press on reducing the spread of the virus.

Sorry to hear that.

I have a feeling all this will be over in about a week - two, tops - and the economy/jobs will come screaming back with a friggen vengeance. And your son will be back sitting in commuter traffic in no time. :patriot:

With all the talk about Italy and its aged population, we might learn something by focusing on Florida and its aged population.  Florida also has warmer temperatures and higher moisture content in the atmosphere, so that could be the difference.  Also could explain Hong Kong and Singapore low numbers.

The idea, as poorly thought out as it is, is to throw money all around in hopes that we'll spend money we otherwise would not, and that would have zero effect on the sectors that are hurting (especially if I'm not even allowed to do the things that would help).

@Cyber Liberty

Of course they hope it's going to be spent!  But not only to try to keep the economy afloat.

The vast majority of Americans live hand to mouth.

Dress it up all you want but the cold hard truth is that without that money, we'd all be living in a dangerous, savage world.

People will not only steal to feed their kids...today, they'll kill you just for your toilet paper.

Due to memory issues and usually shopping hungry, I have food all over my place.
Not prepping at all, just stupid. Have food in my bathroom closet. Freezer is overloaded.
Plenty of TP, and dozens of pounds of coffee. Food under my sink. Fridge is overfilled (stuff actually falls out).
Bedroom closet, living room cabinets, you will find rice, soup, flour, and stuff I have forgotten about months ago.
Every spare spot has food in it. Not from covid-19. It is just something I do, normally and naturally all the time.
Nobody is more surprised than me that my obsessive shopping actually paid off. Totally unexpected.
I could never leave my home for months eating and drinking just fine. And that would be normal for me.
All I'm thinking is that I can finally burn up some of my overstock.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

Might this whole thing be a wake up event for the younger generation where many have been protected from adversity since birth?

I’ve thought about that.  We didn’t live through the Depression or a World War, but a lot of us were raised by parents who did.  And though many were spoiled, many of us were raised by parents who taught us to value what we had, to work hard, and to spend our money wisely.

A lot of kids have been given everything, and taught to expect others to take care of them.

If this causes the economy to crash (God forbid), will the younger generations have the resilience to recover?  Hard to say....

I’ve thought of that, and wondered how many of the elderly Florida residents may have been infected by those reckless college students exchanging bodily fluids on the beaches during their spring break.

I think we’ll find out if there’s an uptick in cases in the coming weeks.

They should have closed those beaches immediately, IMO....

Younger adults are large percentage of coronavirus hospitalizations in United States, according to new CDC data
White House officials warn millennials they are not immune
By  Ariana Eunjung Cha
March 19, 2020 at 8:55 AM EDT

The deadly coronavirus has been met with a bit of a shrug among some in the under-50 set in the United States. Even as public health officials repeatedly urged social distancing, the young and hip spilled out of bars on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. They gleefully hopped on flights, tweeting about the rock-bottom airfares. And they gathered in packs on beaches.

Their attitudes were based in part on early data from China, which suggested covid-19 might seriously sicken or kill the elderly — but spare the young.

Stark new data from the United States and Europe suggests otherwise.

Read more at:  https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/03/19/younger-adults-are-large-percentage-coronavirus-hospitalizations-united-states-according-new-cdc-data/?utm_campaign=wp_post_most&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&wpisrc=nl_most

This article is a free read, I noted, some publications are making their coronavirus info free, it provides a public service.

@TomSea I hope these kids don't die, and the ones who live don't have life-long perment damage to their lungs because they wanted one more day of spring break.  It's hard to blame them for under-estimating the damage.  I've been reassuring my own children that they were very safe from this virus, but that is the message I've been getting from the people who say our COVID-19 response is exaggerated.

If they did stay home.  And if the kids stayed on the beach the whole time (which they didn’t). Then it might not have been a problem.

But I can’t imagine a scenario where there wasn’t contact between the old and the young.

Now those kids have returned to their home states, where I’m quite sure they aren’t self quarantined as they are supposed to be and some will be spreading the disease here.

The beaches should have been closed as soon as it became obvious that the virus was really here.

I remember hearing my mother talk about how she and her sister would canvass the neighborhood looking for scrap metal to fight the war.  Once she overheard my grandmother remark about what a shame it was that the children couldn't have any toys to play with.

It is remarkable to me how the Greatest Generation gave birth to the worst generation.  Although Baby Boomers were taught the lessons, they never lived them.  The only lessons that took hold were the socialism of FDR that gave birth to the Great Society.

A lot of kids have been given everything, and taught to expect others to take care of them.

Maybe, maybe not for Gen XYZ.  But the Millennials as a whole are just plain cynical.  They are already slaves to previous generations, chained down with the impossible burden of supporting half the retirement costs of another individual, and with zero hope of any help when they grow old.  It is no wonder why they choose to live for the moment knowing what lies ahead.

The kids too, will use valuable resources, beds, medicines and so on.

Again, the article posted just yesterday show a sizeable amount of so-called "youth", for however one wants to define that, still go to ICU, they use doctors and nurses and machines.   In that, the percentages are more comparable.  53% might be elderly who are in hospital beds, so that leaves 47% to other age categories, I don't have the figures exactly memorized. At least, after 10 years old generally speaking,  there doesn't seem to be an age group that is bullet-proof to the ravages of the sickness.

I think too, there's a fair chance, the guys showed up but a lesser amount of gals to creep out the forum with talking about "exchanging bodily fluids".  So, yes, there might be a fair amount of guys chugging beers.

And how about other?

James Rosen Drops Bombshell Report That the CDC ‘Lied’ to the White House About Wuhan Virus Testing
Posted at 2:45 pm on March 20, 2020 by Bonchie

I’ll preface this by saying that it’s possible “lie” is too strong of a word here. Nonetheless, James Rosen dropped a bombshell report today that could explain the early slow distribution of Wuhan virus tests. It involves a former official speaking on the record about what he saw at the time.

You can watch the full hit above, which includes the comments from the former official about the CDC misleading the Trump administration on the viability of their early testing regimes. That’s been a hot topic in regards to judging how quickly the President did or didn’t act, often used as a bludgeon within the current news coverage.

This has actually been a question for quite a while, with strong evidence to support the idea that CDC, operating within all the red tape previously created, had really dropped the ball. Tests from overseas were rejected that could have gotten the U.S. testing capacity up and going much sooner. Eventually, the CDC would admit that their early tests were giving false positives, requiring a rework. That’s how we ended up where we are today, with private companies doing the lion’s share of the heavy lifting to get this done. The fact that those private companies had to get involved is a pretty good signal that the CDC screwed this up.

COVID-19 and Food Security
What You Need to Know

...

What are some safe ways to shop for groceries right now? Should I wash and prepare foods differently once I get them home?

Although it is possible for a person to contract coronavirus from touching a surface or object and then touching their face or mouth, this is not the main source of infection. More often, the virus is spread by person-to-person contact through respiratory droplets.

...

Are there particular foods I should avoid purchasing, like foods imported from certain countries?

Most coronavirus infections originate with the respiratory system, not the digestive system, so food itself is not a principal concern, according to the infectious disease expert Daniel Kuritzke. Nor have authorities recommended avoiding foods from any particular countries.

on Defense Production Act: "Has the president, as of now ... ordered any companies to make more of any of these critical supplies?"

Trump said twice Friday that not only had he invoked DPA, but he had begun using it.

I want to be supportive of the President, but I'm getting angry about being lied to.  Stop it, and get to making respirators NOW, because when we run out, just about everyone who needs one is gonna die.

Tech think tank chief to step down after Trump death tweet

“Serious question: could there possibly [sic] any greater poetic justice in the universe than for Trump to die of the #CPACvirus?” Szóka tweeted late Monday.

The leader of a libertarian-leaning tech group is stepping down as its president after tweeting that it would be “poetic justice” if President Donald Trump died from the coronavirus, the group confirmed Friday.

Berin Szóka, president of Washington-based think tank TechFreedom, will be taking an indefinite sabbatical to write a book on tech policy, as first reported by POLITICO earlier Friday. Shane Tews, a longtime member of the group's board, will lead the organization in his stead.

@mrpotatohead Agreed and he is stupid to think he could get away with tweeting it.  But the most hate inspiring President still has to be President George W Bush who was so hated they made a movie fantasizing his assassination.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_a_President_(2006_film) Makes that tweet look like a booger, huh?

BTW with the reporters checking into insider stock trades & such I hope someone is also keeping an eye on which 'insiders' might be side stepping the quarantines to enjoy a little sun on Hawaii's now vacant beaches.

OTOH, considering the "Supply Chain"issues of an extended crisis and te   implications of a long term stay.  Hawaii may be one of the last places in this country  I would want to be stranded in.  I have been there, and the indigenous Polyneisan population does not tend to like outsiders in general.  Can you imagine how they will treat them in an emergency?

OTH, OTH, if you have prepper tendencies and are in a safe secure location near some wilderness, the bounty would be endless.  Food grows wild there year round in massive quantities
