House Foreign Affairs panel fires back at Trump in tweet: 'You're not a dictator'

The House Foreign Affairs Committee slammed President Trump on Sunday after Trump appeared to write that his tweets served a s sufficient notification to Congress in the event of a potential military strike against Iran.

The Democratic-led panel, in a tweet mirroring the language Trump himself used in his message, warned the president that he was not a "dictator" and that Congress has the power to authorize acts of war.

"This Media Post will serve as a reminder that war powers reside in the Congress under the United States Constitution. And that you should read the War Powers Act. And that you’re not a dictator," the committee tweeted.

Whoever wrote the notification law whenever did not anticipate a House that would play a shampeachment game, nor a President with the political courage and instincts to give such a House the "respect" they deserve.

I'd be interested in reading the precise language in the War Powers Act (constitutional or not) that requires the President to provide some specific kind of formalized advanced warning to Congress before responding to an attack on American citizens, assets, or property.  Because I don't see anything of the sort in there.  it simply says the President must notify Congress within 48 hours of having put U.S. troops in combat.   It's a notification that comes after the attack, not before.

So I'm not sure how a pre-attack tweet can be inadequate when there is no obligation to send anything at all.
