As far as Charlie Brown... pretty much anything you see will be a bootleg unless it's from Apple, who's been getting aggressive on other sites sharing theirs. I just bought the DVD and said "forget it."

(Even their free preview is demanding a credit card, which isn't happening!)

Dusting off the old thread because it's that time of year again:

Frosty Returns

Now, admittedly I'm starting to scrape the barrel a bit because most of the good ones are either still around or have already been shared... but this one, after nearly 30 years of being on CBS, got tossed into the "Forgotten" pile for the first time.

It's an oddball sequel to Frosty the Snowman, with one redeeming characteristic: the sardonic yet charming, somewhat-against-type performance of John Goodman as Frosty. Oh, and Jonathan Winters put on a solid performance as the narrator. The plot? Environmentalist bullpucky. I hated this special growing up. There's no Christmas anywhere, the adults are all caricatured as "yay for global warming" scrooges, the kids (among them future Handmaid's Tale star Elisabeth Moss) are miserable, and despite being at least somewhat of a musical, most of the cast can't sing (except Goodman). But... now that it's forgotten, I guess I have to include it.

Status: Bootlegged to YouTube. Not available legally anywhere else.

Olive, the Other Reindeer

Year: 1999

Synopsis: A dog named Olive (voiced by Drew Barrymore) is convinced she is needed to fill in for Blitzen the reindeer to save Christmas. A full hour special, computer-animated (by the team that would later create the Jimmy Neutron series for Nickelodeon) but in a flat, cutout-style design emulating the original illustrated book, supervised by Matt Groening of Simpsons/Futurama fame.

Status: Got a lot of reruns for over a decade on various networks, last appearance on TV appears to be 2012. Full version, which includes a few non-televised scenes, is bootlegged to YouTube.

Santa vs. the Snowman

Year: 1997

Synopsis: An early computer-generated special, in which a lonely snowman goes to war with Santa Claus, hoping to be loved the way Santa is. A peculiar mix of absurdist combat and a touching storyline make this one, despite its outdated CGI, underrated.

Plot: A sequel to the book and special The Cricket in Times Square, a friendly cat and mouse desperately seek out their cricket friend Chester, once reputed to have quieted a New York City crowd solely with his musical "chirping" in hopes of curing New York City's severe case of the humbugs.

Status: All I could find was this windowboxed YouTube bootleg, but it's better than nothing.

Year: 1971

Synopsis: The television film that would later serve as the basis for the long-running TV series The Waltons. In Great Depression-era Appalachia, Olivia Walton, mother of a large family, tensely awaits the return of her husband John from a work trip.

Personal notes: This was a tradition in my family, passed down from my own parents, and I remember it well being presented as a special on Saturday mornings, interrupting my cartoons. They make sure to watch it every year.
