Fifteen years in Iowa jail for burning pride flag
« on: December 20, 2019, 12:33:18 am »
Hispanic last name for this guy. There was some sort of other excessive punishment I read about recently. That was in the UK I believe.

Okay, the flag isn't the whole story, he acted belligerent, threatened to burn a bar down. Still.

Fifteen years in Iowa jail for burning pride flag

A US judge has handed down a sentence of at least 15 years to a man who stole an LGBT pride flag from a church and burned it outside a strip club.

Adolfo Martinez, 30, admitted to the media that he took the flag from Ames United Church of Christ due to his animosity towards homosexuals.

He was found guilty last month of hate crime harassment, reckless use of fire and being a habitual offender.

Pretty sure that could be overturned as cruel and unusual punishment. The disproportion between the act and the sentence is outrageous. Even a year in jail would seem marginal-excessive to me.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Read a number of different articles about the man and the sentence. I couldn't find the name of the judge.

This is what the idea of "hate" crimes is about. Liberals love the fact that you can be thrown into prison in European countries for "hate" speech. Hate speech is simply thought crime. Unconstitutional.
They would like to do that here.
Stealing an article from private property and destroying it warrants the perp some time in a jail cell. Certainly not fifteen years.
A few months of community service/weeks of jail/fine ought to fit the crime.

If it was his flag that's one thing.

But he destroyed private property and could have caused a bigger fire.

There are better ways to protest.

Cheapest one on Amazon about $5, most expensive $115. Seems like restitution and a weekend in jail is the proper sentence.

Would a Patriot accept and pay such a fine? Would someone at the original

I wonder.

Do the math, 15 years of not bending over to pick up the soap vs. community service and <$200 restitution. Kind of a no brainier.

Article says a US judge sentenced the guy.

A federal court involved here?

That is ridiculous for a federal judge to have to hear something like this.

Petty theft should be in the county courts.

No wonder the courts are clogged up.

He burns a piece of cloth, and he gets fifteen years?

No.  He gets fifteen years because of what he thought while doing it.  Human thought is now a crime.

This is your "Social Justice" for you.

Take 25% of his life/freedom as an example, in order to send a message.

Because he couldn't contain his outrage while standing upon and living his 'Principles'...that homosexuality is wrong/sinful.

Appalling.  Granted, he maliciously stole and destroyed private property.  This deserves a punishment.  But, 15 years for the equivalent harm of egging someone's home?  Just demonstrates the punitive and arbitrary nature of applying so-called hate crimes.

Iowa man sentenced to 16 years for setting LGBTQ flag on fire

Register Staff Reports Published 9:53 a.m. CT Dec. 19, 2019 | Updated 9:42 p.m. CT Dec. 19, 2019

An Ames man was sentenced Wednesday to about 16 years in prison after he set fire to a church's LGBTQ flag in June.

Adolfo Martinez, 30, of Ames, was found guilty last month of third-degree arson in violation of individual rights — hate crime, third-degree harassment, and reckless use of fire as a habitual offender.

He was arrested after stealing a pride banner hanging at Ames United Church of Christ, 217 6th St., and burning it early June 11 outside Dangerous Curves Gentleman’s Club, 111 5th St., police said.

Story County prosecuted this case, so I don't believe a federal judge had a thing to do with it.  Prosecutor Jessica Reynolds had asked for the maximum sentence - 15 years.  Still no ID on the judge's name.

One might get less time in the gulags back in the old Soviet Union for burning a flag.

Rapists get less time.
FAR less time.

Perhaps even some lesser homicides.

That's because the flag is protected, being 'free speech' from a protected perversion, an' all that.

In the meantime, Leftists burn the American Flag and get bupkis.
