Multiple law enforcement agencies have converged on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam after a reported shooting on the base with multiple victims.

“JBPHH security forces have responded to a reported shooting at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. Due to the ongoing security incident, access/gates to #JBPHH are closed. We will update when we have further information,” base officials said in a tweet.

Honolulu Police Department dispatch that military authorities are handling the situation.

Pearl Harbor security forces respond to reported shooting

(CNN) — Security forces at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam responded Wednesday to a reported shooting at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, officials said on the base's verified Twitter account.

The incident occurred at 2:30 p.m. HST (7:30 p.m. ET) and access to the base is closed, officials tweeted.

Three Dead, One Injured After Sailor Opens Fire at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard

Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam was placed briefly in lockdown after a sailor shot three people, two fatally, and then turned the gun on himself at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, officials said Wednesday night.

Rear Adm. Robert Chadwick, commander for Navy Region Hawaii, told reporters at the base that two Defense Department civilian workers had died and a third was in stable condition at a local hospital following the shooting. All of the victims and the shooter were male, he added.

HONOLULU (AP) — The U.S. Navy sailor who fatally shot two people at Pearl Harbor before killing himself was unhappy with his commanders and had been undergoing counseling, a U.S. military official said Friday.

The sailor, Gabriel Romero, 22, also faced non-judicial punishment, which is a lower-level administrative process for minor misconduct, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss personnel matters not made public.

Romero also wounded another person in Wednesday’s attack at a naval shipyard before turning the gun on himself at the storied military base, officials have said.
