President Trump has been ordered to pay $2 million to nonprofit groups as part of a settlement in a lawsuit alleging he used the his charity’s funds for personal and political means.

The New York Supreme Court ordered Trump pay $2 million in damages as part of a settlement stemming from a June 2018 lawsuit filed by the state attorney general’s office against Trump, his three eldest children and the Trump Foundation that alleged violations of campaign finance law.


Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Saliann Scarpulla ruled that more than $2.8 million raised by the Trump Foundation has been used for Trump’s campaign and staff rather than the charity itself, CNBC reported. The judge ruled that Trump breached his fiduciary duty and ordered him to pay a fine of $2 million.

A judge Thursday ordered President Donald Trump to pay $2 million to settle a suit by New York’s attorney general alleging he misused his Trump Foundation charity to benefit his 2016 presidential campaign, in addition to other unlawful activity over more than a decade.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Saliann Scarpulla ruled that more than $2.8 million raised by the Trump Foundation had been “used for Mr. Trump’s political campaign and disbursed by Mr. Trump’s campaign staff, rather than by the Foundation” itself.

“A review of the record, including the factual admissions in the Final Stipulation, establishes that Mr. Trump breached his fiduciary duty to the Foundation and that waste occurred to the Foundation,” Scarpulla wrote in her ruling.

   So when Trump canceled that debate in 2016 and held a Veteran Fundraiser instead the majority of that money went to his Foundation/Campaign, is that a correct assumption?

The payment is the final resolution to a case brought by the New York attorney general's office after the Trump Foundation held a fundraiser for military veterans during the 2016 campaign.

The televised fundraiser took in nearly $3 million in donations that were dispersed on the eve of the Iowa caucuses as directed by then-campaign chief Corey Lewandowski.
