Clyburn says House would move forward on impeachment vote without GOP support
By Justine Coleman - 11/03/19 10:38 AM EST

A top House Democrat predicted on Sunday that the lower chamber would move forward with a vote on impeachment against President Trump without support from GOP lawmakers.

When asked by CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union” if he would support a House vote on impeachment without backing from Republican colleagues, Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) said, “We would. Absolutely.”

“I think when we talk about bipartisan support, we’re not limiting that to the Congress,” Clyburn said, referring to  Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) statement from March, when she said impeachment needed bipartisan support to be successful in Congress.

“I don’t think she was limiting that to the Congress,” he added. “She knows the Congress very well, and she knows how Republican colleagues are prone to vote on these issues within the party.”

None of the Dims can afford to admit it,but this impeachment process is the ONLY hope they have for winning in 2020,and they know it.

They're under the delusion that they won the House based on the issue of health care. But that's now off the table because their candidates can't wait to eliminate private insurance, not exactly a big winner for them. They don't really have any other issues and they can't talk about the economy, so impeachment is a handy distraction.

If they fail to get any House repubs on board for the vote, the Senate could easily just pass a motion to dismiss and be done with it. And they of course can't afford a single dem defector. OTOH, depending on what they take to the Senate, the investigations they could do in a trial could be a political heyday, especially if the Mueller report is part of it. Either way, Trump will claim total victory and total exoneration. The whole thing is a political minefield for them.
