House passes resolution condemning Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. military from northern Syria

President Trump tried Wednesday to distance the United States from the escalating chaos in northern Syria following the withdrawal of nearly all U.S. troops in the region — dismissing U.S.-allied Kurdish fighters as “no angels” as the outrage over his decision to pull American forces continued to grow on Capitol Hill.

In remarks in the Oval Office, Trump insisted that the ongoing conflict was “between Turkey and Syria” rather than among “Turkey and Syria and the United States” — comments that provoked a fresh round of criticism from congressional Republicans who have said Trump’s decision to withdraw troops allowed the Turkish incursion last week into northern Syria.

“They’re no angels. They’re no angels. Go back and take a look,” Trump said as he sat alongside Italian President Sergio Mattarella, whom the White House was hosting for a visit Wednesday. Trump insisted that the Kurds would be fine because they “know how to fight.”

excerpt:
Separately, the House adopted a resolution on a 354 to 60 vote with four Republicans members voting present that rebuked Trump’s move to pull U.S. troops out of northern Syria — a decision announced Oct. 6 that has found few defenders on Capitol Hill. The strategy is meant to force Trump to sign or veto legislation that scolded his own decision, although Senate Republican leaders have yet to publicly commit to taking up that bill.

If the House is serious @mystery-ak about this, may I remind them (and others here) that they have the power to declare war.  They should do so.

How many times have the generals, asked for a few more months,a new"surge," more equipment, to train the locals to deal with their own local affairs and problems?

This plot, has been acted out under BushII, Obama, and Trump.

In Afghanistan, and Iraq, and Syria.

Both parties have at times, been on both sides of the issue.

I'd also like to remind you had Trump not made the decision to withdraw troops, we wouldn't have this mess on our hands, ISIS would still be contained and not on the run, innocent civilians wouldn't have died, and the increase in Christians fleeing persecution probably wouldn't have happened.  Trump made a bad decision period. It was also a very poor decision to listen to someone other than his top advisors who are heavily experienced in ME issues and have actual military experience.

Yes, Article I, Sec. 8 does state that Congress has the power to declare war.  However, they have not done so since 1942. The individual congressional authorizations  for military use have been interpreted “as fully empowering the President to prosecute wars". Article II, section 2, names the President “Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States.

No, no, no, it’s much easier to just condemn Trump and grab a little virtue credit for themselves back in their districts.

Hey, just a thought: Congress could try showing America’s enemies overseas that our government is unified in support of our president’s foreign policy, which incidentally could include, short of declaring war, authorizing specific and limited military intervention, as in Desert Storm, if that were the CIC’s recommendation.

But, let’s not muddy the impeachment waters with national unity abroad, national security or plain old American patriotism, no...

Trump.

@libertybele and under the current AUMF Syria is covered.  So this talk about declaring war is just that.  Besides no one is trying to go to war here...it's just deflection from the Code Pink republicans.

Did you see him give the Q Anon sign?
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.
