 Driver pleads guilty in East County Border Patrol pursuit triple-fatal crash

Three people were killed and eight more were injured, three seriously, in a rollover crash during a Border Patrol chase Thursday afternoon on Interstate 8 east of Pine Valley and west of Boulevard, authorities said.

A 22-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to leading Border Patrol agents on a high-speed freeway pursuit in November 2018 that ended with a crash that killed three of his 10 passengers.

Luis Alberto Virgen admitted three counts of voluntary manslaughter and six counts of reckless driving resulting in great bodily injury in connection with the Nov. 29, 2018, crash on Interstate 8 near Boulevard, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.
