A woman running for small town mayor and a candidate for city council were among six people shot and killed in Colombia, an official said Monday.

An armored car carrying all six was hit by long-range weapons and later set on fire in the attack Sunday night in southwest Cauca department, the regional ombudsman Jair Rossi told AFP.

Karina Garcia was running for mayor of the town of Suarez in October elections. The other fatalities included her mother and the city council candidate.

Stigmatization was killing Colombia’s social leaders, now it’s killing political candidates
by Adriaan Alsema September 4, 2019

Election observers on Tuesday warned that stigmatization is fueling deadly violence in Colombia after a mayoral candidate died in a savage massacre.

The murder of Liberal Party mayoral candidate Karina Garcia from the southwestern Cauca province brutally reminded Colombia of the extreme violence that has marred the country’s politics for decades.

Days before her death, Garcia had urged her competitors in the race for the mayorship of the Suarez municipality to stop stigmatizing her or lying about her policy proposals.

She might have been of the "liberal" party but I think they are suspecting the Marxist Guerillas of this.

Why opening your mouth can get you killed in Colombia
by Adriaan Alsema March 2, 2018

An increase in killings of social leaders in Colombia is due to the absence of state authority, failures in an ongoing peace process and the stigmatization of citizens defending peace with FARC guerrillas, according to a new report.

Social leaders, people who represent their community in all kinds of disputes, have always been vulnerable in Colombia because of the country’s weak and corrupt state system.

This traditionally has been an issue in the countryside where the state has traditionally been weak and disputes in some cases are settled by force rather than under the rule of law.

And even if Marxist FARC guerillas are suspected, there's quite a few bad characters on there, on the right too.

Maduro’s Fundamental Role in The FARC’s Affluence and Power

Maduro has given more power and money to FARC and ELN, allying with them to terrorize Colombia.

There have been articles that for pay, Colombia has sent a number of fighters, mercenaries, to fight for UAE in Yemen, pretty crazy.
