The Orange County District Attorney's Office announced on Tuesday that multiple felony and misdemeanor charges have been filed against family members allegedly involved in a violent brawl at Disneyland in Anaheim, California earlier this month.
Video footage of the incident, taken as bystanders watched in horror, showed a family dispute escalate into violent punching, choking, and hairpulling while escorting their young children through "Toon Town" in the famed Disney park. Videos of the incident quickly became viral on social media.
A woman can be seen on video spitting in the face of a man, which appeared to be the triggering moment. The melee quickly escalated and went on for several minutes before park security arrived to remove the family.
Though nearly all members of the family appear to be involved in the fight, including an elderly woman in a mobility scooter, the main antagonist seems to be a man in a bright pink shirt who is shown to repeatedly punch two women in the face and violently pull their hair. The man allegedly also tried to attack a Disney employee with his vehicle after he and his family were escorted from the park.
The man, identified by authorities as Avery Desmond-Edwinn Robinson, 35, is facing five felony charges including assault with a deadly weapon, intent to inflict bodily harm against women, and threatening to kill his family members. Robinson is also facing nine misdemeanor charges including battery and child abuse. If convicted on all charges, Robinson could face seven years and four months in prison.
Several other members of the family allegedly involved in the fight are facing misdemeanor charges of battery and child abuse. Robinson's sister, Andrea Nicole Robinson, 40, faces five charges of battery against her brother, her sister-in-law, and a Disneyland employee.
Police declined to make arrests after being called to the scene by Disneyland on the day of the brawl; however, the popular video sparked an investigation into the matter. The family denied involvement in the fight. Avery Desmond-Edwinn Robinson is currently being held in Orange County Jail.
