Army Green Beret major pleads not guilty to Afghan murder charge
By: Todd South   15 hours ago

An Army Green Beret major has pleaded not guilty to murder and related charges in the killing of an alleged Taliban bombmaker.

Maj. Matthew Golsteyn, who pleaded not guilty, remains on active duty status and is not in custody awaiting his trial date, which has not been set, according to U.S. Army Special Operations Command spokesman Lt. Col. Loren Bymer.

Golsteyn’s arraignment this morning at Fort Bragg, North Carolina came nearly a decade after the alleged incident. He was a captain at the time of his 2010 deployment to Afghanistan with 3rd Special Forces Group during some of the bloodiest fighting in the war.

It's just part of the usual anti-American leftist assault on the US Military, as the crucial arm of America's defense.   They hate every American, but especially those that serve this nation in our military.  I sincerely hope I live long enough to see them get what they deserve for their sedition, treason and treachery.
No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

Any legal eagles here? Does the UCMJ allow for charges a decade after an incident,when defense witnesses and other evidence may no longer be available?

Yes.

No surprise this is happening now that Big Army is running special operations. The end result is you get careerists from the regular army assigned to decision slots who are looking to make names for themselves. They become aware of somebody being killed,and having never been in combat themselves,they have no way to judge the rightness or wrongness of the action,so they invariably decide murder has been committed and think to make a name for themselves by standing up for "truth,justice,and the murikan way".

I have said this before and I will say it again,"If you have never been a shooter yourself,you have no standing to EVER judge what a shooter has done."

@rustynail

IIRC,it was because a president wanted to look tough,and because the defense industry needed the jobs at a time when the economy was tanking and an election was coming up.

And we may never leave because no new president will want to be seen as the one "surrendering Afghanistan".

NONE of which seem to me like valid reasons to go to war or remain at war.

Generally, there is no statute of limitations for murder.  10 USC sec. 843 (establishing Article 43 of the UCMJ).

Not really.  As far as I know, the government still has to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

I won’t deny that it doesn’t make the defenses case harder, but it should also make the prosecutions job harder, too.
