10 things to watch for during tonight’s Democratic presidential debate

As 10 Democratic presidential candidates take the stage in Miami for the first primary debate of the 2020 cycle Wednesday, here are 10 things to watch out for:

1. Swipes at Joe Biden

The former vice president has dominated primary polls since before he officially announced his campaign, and that must change if any of the 10 candidates on Wednesday's debate stage stand a chance of winning the Democratic nomination.

Although contenders may not directly attack the front-runner, who will appear in Thursday's 10-candidate debate, they could take veiled jabs at him.

For instance, several hopefuls have criticized the 1994 crime bill he helped write, pointing to mass incarceration and sentencing disparities.

2. How Elizabeth Warren takes the reins

Warren is the highest-polling candidate of the 10 contenders on stage Wednesday, having crept up in the polls and eating into Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ base of support as she proposes a plethora of liberal policies.

The Massachusetts senator can use the debate to show how she is a more palatable liberal than socialist Sanders and demonstrate how she would take on President Trump in the general election.

  How will it work?

The debates begin at 9 p.m. EDT and run for two hours at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.

They will be shown live on NBC, MSNBC, and Telemundo.

The hosts are Savannah Guthrie, Lester Holt, and Chuck Todd of NBC News, with Rachel Maddow of MSNBC and José Diaz-Balart of Telemundo.

The candidates will be arranged with the front-runners in the center and those ranked lower in the polls standing towards the outside.

Just 120 minutes is not much time for 10 candidates, so expect plenty of sharp elbows as the runners compete for the spotlight.

Who is appearing on Thursday?

The Democratic National Committee wanted to avoid repeating the Republican method of 2016, when a large field was divided into a main field and an undercard or "kiddy table." Instead, they divided the runners into those polling above 2% and those below and made up each night's slate with a random mix from each of those pots.

However, that did not prevent Thursday night becoming something of the main draw, with four of the top five ranked candidates in the polls: Joe Biden, the former vice president, Bernie Sanders, the Vermont senator, Kamala Harris, of California, and Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Indiana.

Marianne Williamson, author and activist, John Hickenlooper, former governor of Colorado, Andrew Yang, an entrepreneur, Kirsten Gillibrand, New York senator, Michael Bennet, Colorado senator, and Eric Swalwell, California representative, make up the rest of the field.

I think I will wait and read the highlights tomorrow and the next day.

When they narrow the field...I'll pay attention.

They're hoping that only the younger, more mush-brained lefties/Democrats, will be awake to watch their display of sheer stupidity and leftism.   They're probably right re: that.

My guess would be "rights", but you'll have to let me know, because I do not plan to watch the first in what promises to be an endless series of Straitjacket Summits.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Not bad, though might be wise to keep it to sipping or be schnockered by half an hour in.

Also took some dramamine to keep the inevitable nausea away.

And Warren looks so uptight that she'd be able to squeeze a lump of coal into a diamond with her buttcheeks.

Robert Francis spoke in English for about a minute then launched into Espanol. The look on Booker's face was hysterical, like he was trying not to laugh.

The big themes are higher taxes on the evil rich and breaking up the evil big corporations so they can give free stuff to everybody.

Marginally preferred alternatives to watching the Dems try to OUTdo lie one another:

1: Watch the weeds die in the front yard (sprayed 'em, again).

2: Watch You tube videos of people vomiting.

3: Wait for the dog to go....

4: .....

4:.......

(Hang on, I'm thinking....)

Oh, To Hell with it. I think I'll just read a book.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
