Kushner reveals peace plan to inject $50 billion into Middle East economies
By TOI staff Today

Senior White House adviser Jared Kushner on Saturday revealed the long-awaited details of the economic aspect of the US peace plan, saying it would inject $50 billion into struggling economies in the Middle East over the next ten years.

In an interview with the Reuters news agency three days ahead of the Washington-led economic workshop in Bahrain, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law said that over half of the funds ($28 billion) would go toward the West Bank and Gaza Strip while $7.5 billion would go to Jordan, $9 billion to Egypt and $6 billion to Lebanon.

“If you can also get that whole region starting to lift, and if you can get a quicker flow of goods and people in all the different areas that are necessary in industry instead of bullets and munitions and war, then I think that will really lead to a big increase in investment in the area and more jobs and better quality of life and hopefully more peace along with it,” Kushner said.

This stupid, effeminate f***.

A great deal of that Gaza money will go to Hamas, while the Lebanon funds get funneled into Hezbollah.

What price peace? That whole area is coming apart at the seams. Maybe it always has, there has been some turmoil.

I guess, for the wrongs one can find with Jimmy Carter, Panama Canal and so on, Camp David has worked out very effectively.

Stabilize now or pay more later, get a bunch of refugees too.

Fishrrman to Mr. Kushner:

NO DEAL.

You'll never be able to "buy" peace from the muslims there.
Not going to happen.

The only "peace" they want is the one that comes after the Jews are erased from the map.

The more you give them, the more they'll demand "before they agree" to peace with Israel.

But they'll NEVER agree, and only want more and more $$$$.

Whose money?

The $50B is to come from international investments over the next 10 years.  The "Economic Workshop" begins in Bahrain on Tuesday ... and this is a top agenda item.

Here I was comparing him to a cross between Pee Wee Herman and Alfred E. Neuman. I find your comparison much more accurate.  888high58888

If US Dollars could buy peace in the middle east, Iraq and Afghanistan would be the gold standard by now.

There isn't going to be a fifty billion dollar check written.  The money will come from investments over the next ten years.

But there's no reason to get all riled up.  The Palestinians will reject the 10 year proposal and restriction on Hamas;  and Israel will reject loosening control on the Palestinian territories, both Gaza and the West Bank, and will reject the creation of so called enterprise zones for any of the Palestinians.

This is another exercise in futility.  So sit back and relax.  The status quo is alive and well.

The proposal is not for 50 billion US dollars.

So, it sounds like the Palestinians at least, are already rejecting this. We'll see, I don't understand the key issues here.

Here's a little more information on Phase I of the proposed peace plan:

Quote
The following are some facts about the "economic vision," drawn from White House documents reviewed by Reuters and described exclusively by Kushner and his aides, who are hoping to gain traction for their proposals during the June 25-26 gathering:

– Donor nations and investors would contribute about $50 billion, with $28 billion going to the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza, $7.5 billion to Jordan, $9 billion to Egypt and $6 billion for Lebanon. The White House hopes wealthy Gulf states will be among the biggest donors. Kushner told Reuters the United States would also consider contributing.

– Money raised through this international effort would be placed in a newly created fund to boost the economies of the Palestinian areas and those three countries. It would be administered by a multinational development bank. The funds would be managed by an appointed board of governors who would determine allocation based on project proposals.

– $15 billion of the total would come from grants, $25 billion in subsidized loans, and about $11 billion would come in through private capital.

– 179 economic development projects would be funded, including 147 for the West Bank and Gaza, 15 for Jordan, 12 for Egypt, and 5 for Lebanon.

– The projects include infrastructure, water, power, telecommunications, tourism and medical facilities, among others.

– Tens of millions of dollars would be set aside for several projects intended to draw closer connections between the Gaza Strip and Egypt's Sinai through services, infrastructure and trade.

– Power lines from Egypt into Gaza would be upgraded and rehabilitated to increase the flow of electricity. It also proposes exploring ways to better use existing Egyptian industrial zones to promote trade between Egypt, Gaza, the West Bank and Israel, but does not identify the zones.

– Further proposals for Egypt are to "support port expansion and business incentives for the Egyptian trade hub near the Suez Canal," as well as to develop Sinai tourism facilities near the Red Sea.

– The plan touts for Palestinian areas the "potential to transform into a successful global tourism destination," and proposes $950 million in grants and loans to develop the Palestinian tourism industry. It seeks to "repair and restore historical and religious sites and beachfront areas."

– If carried out, the plan would double Palestinian gross domestic product in 10 years, create more than 1 million jobs in the West Bank and Gaza, reduce unemployment to single digits and the poverty rate by 50 percent, according to the documents and officials.

– Kushner is taking a two-phased approach to the Trump Middle East peace plan. The next phase will be the much more sensitive political part, which deals with some of the core issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The timing for that remains unclear.

– Kushner wants to get feedback on his plan from the various finance ministers and investment institution representatives who will attend the workshop and gauge what tweaks might be needed to gain it broader support.

So, two points:

1) money will come from “donor nations”, which inevitably means the US taxpayer will be on the hook for several billion of that $50 billion; and

2) this will become nothing more than a giant slush fund for the crooks that pass for the government in Palestinian controlled areas (and, most likely, the other recipient states) and will almost certainly end up paying for the “martyr” pensions paid to the families of dead terrorists.

Great ideas Kushner.  Only thing better would be to simply cut out the middle men and hand the $50 billion straight over to the terror organizations.

Any buildings in Gaza will just be munitions storage facilities.

Netanyahu ally says West Bank-Gaza corridor ‘irrelevant’

By  Associated Press
June 23 at 8:19 AM
JERUSALEM — An Israeli Cabinet minister and ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is questioning a key component of the Trump administration’s new Mideast peace plan.

Tzachi Hanegbi, minister for regional cooperation, said Sunday that the U.S. proposal for a land link between the West Bank and Gaza Strip is “irrelevant” as long as the Hamas militant group controls Gaza.

The $50 billion economic plan, unveiled Saturday, calls for a travel corridor between the two Palestinian areas through Israel.

“It will be relevant when Gaza will stop being a pro-Iranian terror kingdom, meaning it’s irrelevant today and in the foreseeable future,” Hanegbi told Israel’s Kan Radio.

The U.S. is holding a two-day conference in Bahrain this week. The Palestinians have rejected the plan, while Israel will have no official representation.

Put a 100 foot dome around the whole Middle East swamp, punch some air holes in it and check back on them in 25 years.

Sure, but only until the Gazans have jobs and freedom to travel.  With these two changes Hamas becomes an obstacle to a better life.

But this is a risk neither side will take. Better the war games than the chance to stop them.   And this is the pity, the futility and why we need to leave the Middle East to its own demise.

Gazans chose Hamas to run their government and that organization has the destruction of Israel in their charter. There was a two state solution in 1948. Palestinians chose war over coexistence, many times and lost. They can deal with the consequences of defeat.

Take everything away from people and they get desperate.  Give them something to live for and rationality and greed return.

And let's not forget, Hamas has and does serve one of Netanyahu's primary goals:  political distance between the governments of Gaza and the West Bank lest there be a formidable drumbeat for unification and statehood.

Just stop. They were handed Gaza in 2005, after 38 years of Israeli control. It had resources, infrastructure, and potential. They immediately turned it into a lawless terror haven, rocket launching pad, and munitions fortress.

No they weren't.

Every birth and death in Gaza is registered with Israel, every phone in Gaza is registered with Israel (think back to those "knocks" during the war in 2014), the electricity is controlled by Jordan and Israel, transportation to and from Gaza is controlled by Israel and Jordan, fishing rights and location (the only industry) are controlled by Israel and Jordan, shipment of medical and sanitation supplies are controlled by Israel.  The flow of money is controlled by Israel.

The Israeli's moved out of Gaza and built a wall.  The Israeli's did not forfeit control to Hamas or anyone else.

So how does handing $50 billion to Hamas improve the lives of Palestinians?

Also, everyone needs to check their portfolios and make sure they dump any VC funds that are getting snookered into this boondoggle.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.
