According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series was commissioned by NTV, a network owned by Gazprom Media, which is the media arm of Russian natural gas company Gazprom. Russia's culture ministry also reportedly helped to pay for the series, providing 30 million rubles ($460,000). The series will focus on Soviet KGB officers in charge of uncovering a U.S. CIA agent who has been stationed at the Chernobyl plant and is involved in spying, according to THR.
