Rouhani Suggests Holding A Referendum On Nuclear Issue
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani speaking on Saturday May 25 said that a referendum on the country’s nuclear program “can offer a breakthroughâ€.
The Iranian president in a meeting with media managers in Tehran was answering a question when he said that Article 59 can “unblock†difficult situations. He added, “The question of when we should utilize this Article or when in the past we should have used it, is a different matterâ€.
Rouhani told the gathering that in 2004, when he was not president, he told the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to put “the nuclear issue†to a referendum and Khamenei “thought using the Article was a good idea and accepted†Rouhani’s suggestion.
