North Korea forced to cut food rations to record low after 'worst harvest in a decade'
Joe Gamp 6 hrs ago

North Korea’s daily food rations have been cut to a record low this year after experiencing the worst harvest in a decade.

The Hermit State has rations to 300 grams a day — or 11 ounces - with further cuts likely the United Nations said on Friday.

According to US organisation The Nutrition Centre, a good mix of proteins, carbohydrates, fruit, vegetables and dairy products weighs 2 kilos per day per person.

North Korea faces food crisis after poor harvest, U.N. says

GENEVA (Reuters) - Four in ten North Koreans are chronically short of food and further cuts to already minimal rations are expected after the worst harvest in a decade, the United Nations said on Friday.

Official rations are down to 300 grammes - under 11 ounces - per person per day, the lowest ever for this time of year, the U.N. said following a food security assessment it carried out at Pyongyang’s request from March 29 to April 12.

It found that 10.1 million people were suffering from severe food insecurity, “meaning they do not have enough food till the next harvest,” U.N. World Food Program spokesman Herve Verhoosel said.

North Korea’s population is around 25.2 million, according to its Central Bureau of Statistics, the report said.

Another poor harvest for collectivized agriculture.  This has been going on since at least the 1930s.  One starts to wonder whether the Scripture about the Lord making the rain to fall and the sun to shine on the just and the unjust somehow had an exclusion clause in fine print that didn't get transmitted with the canon for people who organize collective farms.

And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

It is a poor harvest, even when they have a high crop yield. They use ’humanure’ to fertilize their fields. That’s why the soldier who defected was so ill and full of parasites.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

That sounds strange to say but yes, that story was in the news recently. I'm sure there are a number of reasons for the "failed harvest".
