Caracas (AFP) - A new blackout swept across Venezuela on Monday, including much of Caracas, sowing alarm two weeks after a nationwide outage that paralyzed the country.

The power cut in the capital occurred around 1:20 pm (1720 GMT) and knocked out electricity in the city center.

After nightfall, many apartment buildings in the Caracas metro area -- home to around six million people -- were aglow again and traffic lights were back on, but people reported they were still in the dark in many other states.

On-the-spot reporting from this account.  Mostly in videos, a few pictures.

Because my hotel has a generator, everyone is fighting for access to the plugs to try and stay connected during the blackout #venezuela #sinluz

But the electricity went off pretty quickly after this.

Videos showing long food lines, government-setup barriers...not great but not the most alarming things to see.

She also says the University recognized Guiado as president and now, the government witholds teacher salaries and school funding.

You almost wonder, how she can be reporting this and will see be shut down? Is it possible to do such on twitter? As said, nothing greatly condemning in what the government is doing.  Society is clearly uncomfortable though.

I can't help but say, I watched one of her videos and I could see a typically lycra=clad cyclists, helmet, riding down the thoroughfare... like business as usual.

My uncle passed yesterday due to a blackout at the clinic where he was receiving dialisis. He died in his brother’s car while being driven to 4 different locations trying to get help. Each one turned him down for different reasons including lack of power.

Horrible, now, here is the journalist Annika Rothstein in the above post speaking to the National assembly.

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

Her accent seems English, she is translated into Spanish with an interpreter, she also has some Swedish (or Scandinavian) language on her twitter. Perhaps, that is her home-country.

They pull their guns and tell at us to get on the ground. They put guns to the back of our heads and I hear how they uncock. I'm quiet. Frozen. In the meantime our bags are opened and everything thrown on the ground. They find my cameras and start shouting again.

It's like the final pages of Atlas Shrugged ... and the fate of every collectivist society.
