Mexico deploys militarized police to block 2,000 migrants from entering Texas

February 5, 2019

Hundreds of militarized Mexican police officers were standing guard Tuesday at the border between Piedras Negras, Coahuila, and Eagle Pass, Texas, to prevent nearly 2,000 Central American migrants from illegally crossing into the U.S.

Buses dropped off the migrants in Piedras Negras, a city of around 250,000 residents, late Monday. By Tuesday morning, federal police in full military gear were lined up in two long parallel rows outside of the facility to keep them from leaving the country, according to tweets from Mexican officials.

The Rio Grande separates both countries in that area, and due to the landscape, portions of the border do not have a physical barrier, making it easier for people to try to enter the U.S.

Yeah...no.  I don't trust it.  It's all for show, IOW.  Mexico has helped and aided the migrants.... all along the way.  I think.... that Mexico is just putting up a lame Kabuki performance now to try to hold onto that US foreign aid $$$ that Trump promised to withhold if they didn't stop the caravans.  I don't think they have to worry though.  I suspect it was just an empty threat on Trump's part.

I'm definitely in Trust-But-Verify mode on that one.

A large caravan of over 1,800 Central American migrants arrived in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico at the United States-Mexico border on Monday, February 4, 2019, aboard 49 charter buses at approximately 3:30 P.M., announced Mayor Claudio Bres Garza of Piedras Negras, Coahuila. Piedras Negras, Coahuila’s American sister city is Eagle Pass, Texas.

With only a few days to prepare for the arrival of the large Central American migrant caravan, the City of Piedras Negras, Coahuila and the State of Coahuila, Mexico hastily made preparations to receive and host this unprecedented group of migrants in this fair United States-Mexico border.  The City of Piedras Negras, Coahuila opened two empty former Maquiladora assembly plants and furbished them to act as temporary headquarters and housing for the over 1,800 migrants. The huge warehouses were furbished with hundreds of mattresses, blankets, portable restrooms, showers, cafeteria, and volunteers in order to process the 1,800 plus migrants that arrived in this U.S.-Mexico border, about 145 miles southwest of San Antonio, Texas, presenting a huge logistical situation to Mexican authorities.

Mayor Claudio Bres Garza met with his American sister city, Eagle Pass, Texas, and American Customs and Border Protection officials on Monday, February 4th, before the immediate arrival of the large Central American migrants caravan to discuss joint security and humanitarian relief efforts between the United States and Mexico to accomodate the group.

As each of the 49 charter buses rolled into Piedras Negras, Coahuila, they were escorted to the two large former maquiladora warehouses for welcoming and processing them in an orderly manner. One warehouse was designated for women and children only while a second warehouse for men, causing consternation from some of the migrant families due to the separation of their families.  Mexican authorities noted this measure was taken for health and safety reasons.  All Central American migrants are being processed and given a health examination before settling into their temporary housing quarters.

Considering how much money these caravans are costing Mexico.... I wonder if the PTBs in Mexico are demanding compensation from Soros...?

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Forty nine charter buses?  What's next, jumbo jets? If it wasn't obvious this operation has been 'community organized' before, one need only consider the cost for the buses, fuel, etc. Reminds me of Jerry Rubin flying all over the country telling kids to drop out and be hippies...yippies, whatever. It's a lot of hat passing for poor people.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

U.S. will let just 20 migrants per day in new caravan cross into Texas

Eagle Pass, Texas, is not staffed to process large numbers of migrants seeking asylum, and the U.S. is not adding officials who could speed up the process.

Quote
Hundreds of migrants in a new caravan that just reached the U.S. border may have to wait in Northern Mexico for months, because the U.S. agents in the tiny Texas town where they want to cross can only currently process fewer than 20 migrants a day, according to Customs and Border Protection officials.

More than 1,800 migrants arrived in Piedras Negras, Mexico, on Tuesday, just across the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass, Texas.

Border agents in Eagle Pass can process fewer than 20 asylum seekers a day, but as of now, there are no plans to beef up the number of officers who can administer a credible-fear interview, the first step towards seeking asylum. In a credible-fear interview, an asylum seeker tries to establish there is reason to fear returning home.

The Trump administration is sending 250 active duty troops to Eagle Pass in addition to more Border Patrol agents to enforce border security. Texas Department of Public Safety has deployed dozens of state troopers to Eagle Pass in anticipation of the caravan.

Mexico governor tells migrants to stay away from his border city: ‘No more caravans!’

https://www.foxnews.com/world/mexico-governor-tells-migrants-to-stay-away-from-his-border-city-no-mas-caravanas

Quote
PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Mexico -- The Governor of Coahuila, the Mexican state where this border city is located, has one thing to say after overseeing the arrival of a caravan of nearly 2,000 migrants: “No Mas Caravanas,” or no more caravans. That was the headline in the local newspaper.

“In the case of the state government, we will not allow more migrants to travel to Coahuila,” Gov. Miguel Riquelme told reporters.

Out of nearly 2,000, only 139 migrants have obtained their official cards that will allow them to leave the shelter and travel freely throughout Mexico.

Authorities are also investigating whether the migrants have a criminal past. If they do, they will be deported immediately. So far, no one has been deported as a result.

This aggressive containment is intended for the security of surrounding Coahuila communities – and preventing the threat of them crossing the border, officials say.

49 charter buses

Who is doing this - paying this kind of money for almost 2,000 people coming to the border?  Mexico needs to stop the buses, make them turn around before they get into Mexico's southern border.  This has to stop and Mexico has to stop it, or keep these thousands in their country and they don't want them.

Here is the problem- the buses could keep coming until the countries sending them are absent of people.  Yes, no more people in their countries because no one is stopping them coming.  Evidently the people are being told the United States will take them and give them houses and medical care and food.

What would you do if you were barely hanging on in these countries?  Someone says get on this bus and your life will be happy and you will have everything you want that you can't get here.  The bus has food/water and a bathroom and good seats to sleep in and in not many days, you will be in the United States.  They get on the bus...
